From News and observer! Another name brought up in the race was Clay Aiken, the 2003 runner-up in American Idol and former U.S. Congressional candidate. He said he was approached to gauge his interest in running for the seat.
“I did tell the party leaders who I spoke with that, if they were unable to find any other qualified candidates interested in running, I would be willing to step in,” Aiken said in an email. “But when I learned that Angie Scioli was interested in taking the spot on the ballot, there was no question that she was not only more than qualified, but probably the most suited for that seat of anyone in the county.”
