Went in for the WHYY M & moo
In a line much like Broadway cares pics
When you get to the front you give your purse and coat to the PBS lady
Then you face Jerome and give him you item to be signed
Then your turn w CLAY
He signs the item and puts arm around you for pic
Picture brief words and on to next

He is soooooooo handsome
Olive green shorts drawstring goes to knees
Syracuse blue hoodie
Most dazzling smile

He asked most their names but I may have stopped him by quickly saying
"we love you so"
We had the pic and then he turned to me and smiled and said "thank you "
Wonderful smile

Ooh we are going in now

Glad they could at least get a pic with just Clay and not a group one this time.

Clay:: "Amazing, more than 2 men in the front rows; and we have some who are thrilled to be here too."

Clay:: "Any who were bribed?"

Clay:: "How many came with their wife or partner?" "How many came alone?" "How many came with friends?" "We're all friends."

Clay:: "If you came with someone you love, with someone you want to love you, etc., snuggle closer to them, it's a stranger, keep hands off."

Talking to audience about as we were putting together a setlist for the show and staying true to the 50's and 60's and cut some songs out of the show, Invisible and those types of things ..... but this is Philadelphia, and it's sort of an interesting phenomenon in the south 3 or 4 nights ago .... in south audiences are very polite and when he said he took Invisible out of the show and was saying how they reacted .... couldn't understand it all ... but in New York when he said they took it out of the show they started cussing ....

Men in audience calling out "Lady Gaga, "Metallica," (Clay: "What are you doing here? A match made in heaven.")

C: "You don't have to be able to sing at all to sing on the radio today."

C: "I'm losing my voice."

C: Explaining recording in the old days.

C: "By the time I recorded "Invisible," you could literally just sleep through recording." (Paraphrase.)

C: "Ben and Adam had a bit of a chance to show off so now we're going to the other side of the stage so Felix and Del can a bit."

C: Worried about ripping out his pants. "We were in Houston a few weeks ago and we were doing a sound check; and I sat down on the stool and Rip....... I figured this was crap I had just bought them two days earlier. Put them in a laundry bag. Oh these jeans right here, I can wear them, they're clean completely forgetting that there was a big rip in them. Wore them all the way through sound check. "

Q asked Clay why he was wearing them and he said because he wanted his butt hanging out.

C: Explains "Who's Sorry Now" is his mother's favorite song and that she's going to hate this part of the show.

C: "Felix and Del are professional musicians, they know every single kind of music except Tehana (sp?)"

C: "I want suggestions from the audience on style to use."

C: "Give it up for Quiana. Quiana's been with us 8 years and I couldn't be more thankful for her - Quiana Parler."

C: "How are you doing tonight Felix, no golf today? What time did you get up this afternoon. Felix just took up golf about 6 months ago. Just broke 400 whatever that means. Better than me but slightly worse than Tiger Woods. You have an anniversary tomorrow. This is Felix's 5th tour with us, 6 almost 7 years now.....Felix on the drums folks."

C: "Del is a fountain of useless knowledge. He doesn't talk too much but when he does it's either useless knowledge or funny stuff. Has a very dry sense of humor. Last night he told a joke and I didn't get it until 20 minutes later. My mom's here now."

From CV:

C: "Who's yelling for Adam? Fan: "Katie." C: "What's your phone number?"

C: "Adam's the baby of the tour. Adam just had a birthday on Thursday; turned 19. He's learned the ropes of the tour pretty good so far."

Clay telling story about Adam going down to the bus the other night.

Jerome thought Adam was 'one of you crazies' and almost knock the **** out of him.

C: "Adam Fallen"

C: "Guy with the radio shack in the back. Ben broke the piano last night so we have no "a's" whatsoever. He's our musical director and he arranged just about everything tonight. Been with us 2 years but with us by default for many years."

Clay mentions Ben knowing Sean

Everyone else will ask for one

Clay - Jukebox now??

C: "Don't interrupt me while I'm talking"

C: "Gotta love 'em don't cha."

C: Talking to cell-certer. "We don't have a lot of say about cameras and such; we don't really care, it's up to the venue. Just don't flash me..........."

C: "I don't think this venue allows videos. Doesn't matter, forget the rules, who cares, we don't mind you doing it. "

I like that he said this.

C: Talking to Scarlett - "Apparently you have more fans than I do. I recognize Scarlett in the audience from her camera lenses. I wouldn't recognize her in the street, I've never seen her without a camera in front of her."

C: "Would you be willing just this once and ask someone to hold onto it for just a second?"

Scarlett pausing.

C: "Tell me, Scarlett; you put this online immediately?"

Clay wants non-fans to understand how disturbed we are. C: "Scarlett, the red light's not on, oh God, oh Good, it's back."

Clay explaining videos being put on line by fans.

C: "If my pants rip, you don't need to be here to see it, it's online. LOL You continue to come and I really appreciate it. I don't think I even told my mother the first time because I didn't think I'd make it."

Talking about times he got cut then lasting 1 year, 2 years now 8 because of fans.

Here's Gwenn recap.

CLAY--DROP DEAD GORGEOUS.  JUST THAT BRIEF 30 SECONDS WAS SWEET.  STUBBLE, NO GLASSES AND HIS ARM EVER SO BRIEFLY AROUND YOU.  NOT BAD.  WHAT AN OUTFIT.  ONLY CLAY.

THE VENUE WAS PRETTY FULL CONSIDERING IT WAS OSCAR NIGHT.  ABOUT 85-90%.  CHRISTIE WAS FURTHER BACK AND SHE SAID THERE WERE SCATTERED SEATS HERE AND THERE BUT THAT WAS IT.  GOOD.  BECKY SAT WITH US.  WHAT A COINCIDENCE.  SO, THERE WERE 11 OF US TOGETHER.  SO MUCH FUN.

WAS HE IN THE BEST OF VOICE?  MAYBE 90%.  THE THEATER IS OLD AND PROBABLY REALLY DRY.  I REALIZED THAT AT THE TAPING THEY FILTERED IN MIST.  THAT KIND OF A VENUE CAN DO THAT BECAUSE IT IS DESIGNED FOR MUSICIANS.  THIS WAS IN ITS DAY A MOVIE THEATER CONVERTED ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO.  PLENTY OF SEATS BUT OLDER.  THE SEATING IS NARROW AND LONG SO THE INTIMATE FEELING OF TOWSON WAS NOT THERE.  IT WAS A PERFORMANCE AS OPPOSED TO HOW JILL AND I FELT ON TUESDAY.  DID I ENJOY MYSELF?  YEP.  HE WAS CLAY DOING WHAT HE DOES BEST----ENTERTAIN.  MAYBE 5 OR 6 NOTES THAT WERE BAD BUT FOR SOME REASON, I DON'T CARE.  I GUESS I SHOULD BUT I AM MORE INTERESTED IN THE PASSION I FEEL IN HIS INTERPRETATIONS.

THESE LARGE M&G'S ARE WEARING HIM OUT.  ALL THOSE GERMS.  ALL THAT TALKING RIGHT BEFORE A CONCERT.  THIS WAS VERY ORGANIZED AND EACH OF US GOT OUR "MOMENT" EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SHORT.  I THINK THE TOWSON CONCERT WAS BETTER BECAUSE THE PBS M &G WERE FEWER.  HE SOUNDED INCREDIBLE.  BUT HE WAS "ON".  DID I SAY HE WAS GORGEOUS?

Here's Micki's recap. How wonderful her and Marilyn got to sit front row.

I had a wonderful time last night!  Marilyn was the perfect companion, pushing me to and fro. It was such a joy seeing old friends again.  When we lined up for our M & G, Jerome spotted me and said "we'll take this young (what?!?!?!) lady first.  Holy Crap!!  So.....Marilyn wheels me over to the designated spot, Clay comes off the stage, signs my DVD (after finding a pen that worked), asks my name and where I'm from, bends down to my level, we both lean our faces in, the picture was taken, I thank him, and off I go.  It was all so fast, but sweet!!!  Then before the show starts, I'm sitting in lobby alone (where were the rest of you ladies?) while Marilyn used the facilities. This gentleman from the theater comes over to me and asks if I could get out of my wheelchair into my seat (I told him I could) , or if I would be more comfortable in my chair. I asked him where he would put me.  He said he'd move me and Marilyn to the "pit".  SAY WHAT?!?!?!?!  So I said, "Sure, I'd be much more comfortale in my chair".  I'm no fool!  So, Marilyn and I ended up being right up front.  And he looked mighty fine last night!  You all know I'm not a fan of this CD, but I really enjoyed the show.  He was so funny!  I'm so grateful Marilyn thought of me for her guest.  Thank you, sweetie!

Now, it's all so bittersweet, because I don't know when I'll see my friends again.     I miss them already.

Just returned from Glenside. I have not seen Clay live for some time. This evening was just splendid. Clay is a superstar. My DH commented on how easy and relaxed he is on stage; how quick witted he is, how beautifully he sings,; how wonderful the arrangements are; how talented Quiana is. I think he enjoyed himself.

A woman , probably in her 80s, sat behind us and we had a conversation with her.. Don't know if she is a NJU or relative of a fan or what. She was a lovely, delightful woman. As Clay was singing I heard her say to the person she was with "oh, this takes me back to my youth." Then when he would start a song she was familiar with she would sigh or say ohhhh or gasp. She had a great time. I think this is what it's all about and particularly with the music on the "Tried and True" CD. There are probably thousands of people out there like this woman whose response to Clay would have been as enthusiastic as this woman's. If only, if only we could get to them or get Clay to them. I was thrilled with her over heard response to the show!

Clay said at one point that he was losing his voice and had a couple of problems. But he sang through it, around it and was as always, my absolutely favorite singerman. No one like him. No one will ever be like him. Nice crowd. Some seats in the back. My guess is there were close to 1000 people there. I'm not good at estimating. They were a lively bunch tonight!

He looked really good - nice hair, FINE pants, etc. All in all I am a contented fan tonight. My DH was happy and of course, I was ecstatic.

Sean of Ben and Sean was attending. Also, I think Greg from the Christmas Show a few years ago was there. Tall, thin, good looking, dressed in a suit, shirt, tie. I wouldn't have recognized him, but others seemed to. I think he might be 14 or 15 now

Back from Keswick and I am on a super high! What an overly super talented, a growl in the voice, caring and loving man we are following. His change up with his emotions from one song or banter to another are truly outstanding. The high notes he reaches get me every time....keep it up please Mister Clay.  We got the TUG, THE PANTS, STUBBLE, HAIR...you know, the complete gorgeous package! Yep, we got yodeling....."Yo the old lady.....Mummers..Clay said Mumbers and was totally clueless  I was one doing the Mummers thing in my seat...I was on the right side kind of down front near the aisle...not center.
I did ask the man next to me if it would be alright with him...because I am very enthusiastic, and he said fine with me go right ahead and enjoy yourself. We wound up singing very softly to all the songs and my friend was cracking up. Never asked his name but thanks so much to him! Can't count how many times I stood up and clapped and shouted for all and gave Quiana a You Go Girl but I am now losing my voice and my head is spinning....but All Is Well! I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE once again thanks to Clay and Company.

I won tickets to see Thin Lizzy at the Keswick but for the life of me now I don't know who the hell they are. Also met two NJU men at the ticket window who won tickets for another show and asked if they had ever been to a Clay concert and they said this was their first. They said they LOVE his music and will be attending more....so there you go Clay..two more fans! Bold me said what are your names...Tony and Dan...shook hands and said glad to meet you Monica. Maybe some time I'll get to shake Clay's hand..hint hint

In alphabetical order  ...Adam, Ben, Clay, Del, Felix, Quiana...thank you for your talent and for being you. Stay safe...Be well...and can't wait to see you all again! Shout out to Jerome, the 22 ft. body guard for all you do.

Recap from GrandmaJoan at the CB:

It's 1:13 am and we just got back from the Glenside concert. It was just fabulous. It was my first and last one, and I didn't want to leave the theatre. Neither did my daughter, Laurie, nor the four ladies we brought withus. Two of them had never seen Clay live in concert, and boy, did they love him. Of course, once you see him for the first time, you are hooked. We all know that. So now they are begging us to tell them when they can see him again.

It was fabulous seeing old friends that we only get to see at the concerts, the Gala and the Fan Fest. It's so nice to be with them, even if it is only for a couple of hours. We're still family! As we were walking out, a lady asked us all about Clay and said she had never seen him before. They she told us that this was the second best concert she had ever seen in her life. Then she said that the other one was Elvis. I think that was a huge compliment to Clay, and she plans to do her homework and find out all about him.

I was lucky enough to have a PBS meet and greet. Someone who could not attend at the last minute was kind enough to give it to me. This was arranged by a wonderful lady, to whom I will be eternally grateful. We had to be at the theatre at 5:30 and line up inside. It went by the pbs station - there were three of them, I think, plus the auction winners and the ofc winners. When we got down the aisle by the stage, Jerome was there to take what we wanted signed, and directed everyone over to Clay, who was standing in the corner by the first aisle. I asked him to sign my pink jacket with Clay's silouhette on the back. He signed it right next to that. Mary was there to take individual pictures. Clay would ask our name and pull each one over to him so that he could put his arm around us for the photo. I was able to say a few words to him and and then it was over. Now, I don't remember the picture being taken. I have to wait till the pbs people send it to me, so I can't wait for that. I can't imagine how Clay can stand there and put on that beautiful smiley face for a hundred or more people and not get tired of doing it. But you can tell that he enjoys it.

It was nice that Clay's mom was in the audience again tonight. She is so proud of him. The concert was amazing and his voice, although it seemed a bit scratchy in the beginning, was glorious and he nailed all the glory notes in UM with such ease. That song got the best standing ovation of the night. People stood up several times for other songs, but UM and "In My Life" were the standouts in my opinion. I loved everything - the banter, the yodeling, the dancing and his great sense of humor. Laurie and I had third row center seats so we saw him up close and personal, although every seat seemed to have a great view. We sat next to Scarlett, who took her usual videos. She was acknowledged by Clay and he told her how much he appreciated her dedication. He tried to get her to hand the camera to someone else so that he could see her face, but she was reluctant to do tht for more than a few seconds. It was so funny.

There were lots of fans that waited by the bus. We had to get our passengers back home to New Jersey so we didn't stay. I did hear that there was some obnoxious guy standing there with a crude sign and he was half dressed. I hope Jerome took care of him.

All the way home, we listened to a lot of older Clay music so that the newbies could experience him when he was on AI and when he did some demos. It was a great ride enjoyed by everyone. Now, we have to wait for Clay's next venture. I hope he doesn't keep us waiting too long. Now that we've seen him live again, it only makes us hungry to see him again soooon. I wonder what he has up his sleeve now?

Magical Music

I want to share a NJU story, however it's no longer a NJU story. She's one of us now. Last weekend a college gal who's a new fan went to her first Clay concert. This weeked she went to Westbury and Glenside with me and 2 other friends. She had a PBS meet and greet and got a handshake by the bus. She told us she was afraid she was hooked and kept saying how great Clay was. We played MOAM in the car several times during our travels and she loudly sang along. Her boyfriend is also a big fan. He attended his first concert last night and remarked that he wished he had been to see a Clay concert sooner.

QUOTE (psparky @ Feb 28 2011, 06:54 PM)
I just wanted post that I was at last nights concert and Clay was wonderful! His his voice did crack a little but the story below will make you see that "we" are his worst critics!

I had two extra tickets to last nights show and I gave them to a women I work with. The important thing to remember is she had no idea who he was, except for the fact that my office is plastered with his pictures. She was excited to go though and took her husband. I walked up to her today and she was "still under the Clay glow"! Yes ladies she loved him! She thought he was adorable, sexy and talented! She said she now understands why I love him so much. Another bonus was her husband loved the show too! I loved the fact that she went with no preconceived opinion formed, just went with an open mind and LOVED HIM! I mentioned his voice was a little hoarse and he had a few cracks in his voice, she didn't even notice them! She loved ever song and every moment of the concert. Anyway, for the first time in 8 years I finally got someone I work to go see him and she was thrilled! The good thing is that she told everyone she saw that he was "wonderful". If people can see him and not prejudge him..they will see the "magic" in his talent!

In my dreams LOL. I know I mentioned on the cert last night how unbelievably gorgeous he was. I felt it from the moment we saw him at the meet and moo. And while I always think he looks good, something was emanating from him last night. I guess it was a quiet sensuality. Sometimes he radiates sensuality in a more powerful way, but last night it was different. I was truly shocked that we each had an individual picture and were able to have something signed, such a pleasant surprise. I am praying that I leaned in more this time, I think I did but who remembers anything after having that arm around you. LOL As others have mentioned, he was a little scratchy out of the gate but as his voice warmed up he sounded just fine. More than fine. His interpretations of these songs are so mature yet tender. What he does with songs like Both Sides Now and In My Life shows just what a craftsman he is with his voice. Like a sculpter who takes that block of marble and turns it into an object of pure beauty.

At my first three concerts I had very emotional reactions to lots of his performances. Last night he was touching me in a different way. In a purely vocal way. I think because it was my last show I wasn't allowing myself to connect emotionally. Going back and watching the clack from last night today, I am getting that emotional reaction. I think I was protecting myself last night because I had no more shows left. This concert series has left me feeling like no other he has done. The show is a work of art and the songs are a perfect tapestry for his voice.

OMG the pictures posted just make me drool. Thanks so much for posting them. Also, thanks to all for the awesome clack.

The concert last night in Glenside was amazing. Clay looked and sang beautifully and was so funny and at ease on stage. His speaking voice was hoarse, but he still nailed the power notes. He had a couple of cracks in the softer songs, but it was hardly noticeable especially to the NJU people. Did anybody notice that when Clay was doing the autotune bit he said maybe he would make his next DC robot music so it could get on the radio? I know he was joking about the robot music, but just the fact he said his next CD, made me think he is planning to do one in the future.

I went with my DH and he said Clay was great! He said he was funny and really talented and he didn't understand why he wasn't more popular or why he wasn't offered a Vegas show. He thought maybe when the economy turns around more people would attend his shows. I was so happy that he saw what I see.

We were sitting next to two sisters that had never been to a show and didn't own any CD's. They loved him and thought he was fantastic. They said, their mom had passed away last month and they really needed that. He made them feel so much better and they were going to buy his CD.

It's so nice to hear about new fans and we all know the more people that hear him live, the more fans he will have. There is nothing like Clay live! Hearing him in person just doesn't compare to listening to the CD as beautiful as it is. You just need the whole package and quite a package it is. The package is shown off very nicely, too in many of your pictures.

At Philly, they were going after some people in the beginning but didn't act like they were hunting down rabid dogs or something. Jerome did go after some people who were using flash and I swear, one woman a few rows behind me must have had some damn spotlight or something because it lit up several rows. Wasn't sorry he went after her. The whole Scarlett banter was priceless and after the show, people were calling for Scarlett and when she went to them, it was because Faye wanted to meet her. Faye actually thanked Scarlett for her videos and said that she downloads clack to show her mother. Scarlett was so tickled by this and I think she now is a fan of Faye as well as Clay. And when we went out to the bus, she was at the end of the line, and I think we can thank her for the busline. Clay came out still dressed up, and I'm not sure if he was going to do it. It looked like he was just going to thank us for coming but he saw Scarlett and came down to tell her that he does know what she looks like, because he'd been joking during the show that he wouldn't recognize her without the lens. Then he went up the line touching hands, where I got another hand touch. My first was at Pittsburgh (I think). He has warm hands, which was good because my hands were frozen by that point. And then I helped Scarlett celebrate. In spite of all the times she has met or seen Clay and she is still as fangirly as the first time. She really is adorable.

My Glenside Recap

Last night was my one and only show for this tour and I was beyond excited. Life right now does not permit fun travel and luckily this show was practically in my backyard-just an hour and half away.

I have never had a M&G although during the Spamalot run I did have a pic with Clay through the Broadway Cares donation opportunity. Even though I have entered every possible contest for a M & G for my 30+ shows, the M&G has eluded me. Thanks to vjm's quick action though we had PBS M & Gs through the Allentown station. I had hoped that it would be the format in which he would answer questions. I love to hear him talk. But with the numbers who eventually secured a PBS M&G, that just wasn't going to to happen. I did enjoy the opportunity to briefly meet Clay and have a pic. I have no memory if I had any contact with his body. And only after seeing today's amazing pictures, did I realize he had some serious stubble action going on. I enjoyed watching Clay interact with vjm (he made a cute comment about her hometown) and vjm's two sisters who are more NJUs. (They absolutley loved the show and think is adorable).

A couple cute things while we waited for the M&G. Jerome (who was looking quite fit I might add) was going over instructions about pose protocal. He reported that some women will take their hand and start rubbing Clay's back. Jerome demonstrated causing giggles throughout the crowd. He informed us that he didn't care if we were 8 or 80, he would have to intervene if that happened. He said it sweetly, though, and added that those who did that were probably not even aware what their hand was doing. Yeah, right.

Another nice thing that happened while we were waiting is that I got to meet farouche who was standing right in back of us. When she talked about having her camera signed, I thought I should have brought my binoculars which has a sticker from the NAT. Ah, next M & G. Farouche and I both discovered that we wanted Clay to sing "folk-Bob Dylan style." Farouche, did you ever yell that out? I was too far back to be heard. I did yell "DoWap" and I heard several others in the theatre do so but not sure Clay did.

I have to comment on Clay's appearance-adorable for the M&G in his shorts and hoodie. Classy, handsome and confident for the show. Really, really handsome.

Some thoughts about the music. First, a disclaimer. I love TnT. Big fan of Andy Williams, Sammy Davis Junior and Jack Jones when i was a teen. So some might say that I was predisposed to like the show. Guilty.

That being said, I did not think I would like "Where Do I Begin, Love Story Theme"-I had heard it once or twice on the cellcert (I tried to stay somewhat spoiled) and I thought it sounded somewhat shouty at times. But live, wow-i thought it was beautiful, powerful, and wonderfully interpreted. Didn't find it shouty at all.

I also wasn't sure what I would think of the Jazzy medley-it seemed from some recaps it was not a favorite and I remember the one very favorable review called it "odd." I absolutely LOVED it. I think Clay sounded uber cool doing those renditions. His voice sounded spectacular doing it as well. I think farouche described it as "rat packy" and I agree. I wonder how comfortable Clay is being "cool" though. He carried off this segment with great ease and panache but I wonder if he think he sees it as putting on an act-that this really isn't his style. Don't know if that makes sense.

I swear I didn't breathe through some songs, In My Life and Both Sides Now to name a few. Loved, loved, loved both renditions.

The Whose Sorry Now segment was priceless. Clay can yodel! And Quiana added a superb yodel at the end. It was interesting to see Clay's reaction to the suggestion of skat. He turned to Quiana and said he wasn't very good at that. Clay cares about being good. I like that. Also I liked that the Keswick theatre staff tweeted today, wondering if Clay ever figured out what Mummers were. Hope Clay sees that tweet!

The autotune section was also fun-he said that he didn't know what songs the band will pick out for him. But when someone in the audience answered "Taio Cruz" to "Who do you listen to on the radio?" Clay stopped for a moment and said "Really?" and it seemed like he was going to say more but then moved on. Me thinks he knew the Dynomite song was a possibility. That was alot of fun.

And this takes me to the pacing of the show. I thought it was excellent-it never lagged and one song seemed to logically to go into the other. Clay kept it fun with the audience interaction and the fun numbers.

It was interesting to hear the reaction of people clapping as a song started, in appreciation of a song selection. I was in the seventh row on the side and I noticed that as the night went on the clapping (at the onset of the song) coming from the back, where I believe the NJU were more likely to sit. I liked hearing that. It was particularly noticeable during the UM. The front section was perfectly still, it seemed, not wanting one note to be obscured by a clap. But behind me I heard alot of clapping when the song began-I wonder if they remembered Clay's tour de force with this song on AI.

Loved reading this. I ran into others who told similar stories of NJU. One friend said that the two ladies next to her had never seen Clay in concert, remembered him from Idol. They were crazy about the concert and at the end the one said she wanted to hop on the bus with Clay. This same friend said that a group of four middle-aged men who she identified as gay sat in front of her and at the end of one song the one man said "You did good Clay.' I really think that Clay should be a source of pride for the gay community-and I think he was for this man.

This really is going on way too long but I wanted to end with my appreciation for all the wonderful friends I have made since this trip all began. I saw many friends and aquaintences last night and it was such a satisfying feeling to see them all again. What struck me as I mingled among the varous fan groups was the uniform chorus that this man's talent must be seen and heard-the world is a better place for it.

Glenside M&G Recap by Marilyn

When I found out that there were still M&G’s available for the Keswick concert, I immediately thought of Mickie (LovingClay) . Due to ill health she has not been able to travel in the last couple of years, and she never met Clay in person.
Since traveling to this venue was possible by car, I asked her if she wanted to go and she was very excited.
Fast forward to last night. We got to the venue and I pushed Micki in her wheelchair into the lobby. There were two lines for PBS –one for PBS39 and the other for WHYY. We were in the latter group. There were several folks ahead of us in line. They took us into the theater and lined us up along one of the aisles. Jerome came and told us about not being tempted to “rub our hands” on Clays back while picture posing. Clay would sign one thing but it would not be personalized.
Jerome  pointed to Micki and said “I want this young lady to come down first”. So I wheeled her down the aisle to the front. Mary was taking the pictures. There was a tall round table with markers on it off to the side. Then I heard “Here he comes” and there was Clay in his gray hoodie and plaid shorts, sneakers but no socks. He looks very slender. His hair looked freshly washed, his face was glowing and he looked absolutely scrumptious
I wheeled Micki over and stepped back. He asked her what her name was and where she was from, and then he stooped down next to her and that beautiful smile flashed on us. He has the greatest smile. I heard Gwenn, Jill and Marion in the back going "AWWWW"
I then wheeled her over to the side and it was my turn!!
He said “Hello Marilyn how are you? “  EEEEEK (his memory is amazing, because its been over three years since I read at one of his Christmas shows, and I only spoke to him at Spamalot ONCE)
I said “I’m good Clay, how are you?” I leaned next to him, the picture was taken. I don’t remember looking in his eyes, I don’t remember putting my arm around him (my other friend tells me I did). And then I thanked him and that was it.
Way too brief, but he sure made me feel good- euphoric, even. There is something about him that envelops you when he is near. Aiken fog, perhaps yes- but the last time I met him I was able to remember a whole lot more. How the room lit up when he came in, the brightness of his smile, the way he made you comfortable.
I just love this man.

ETA: Micki waited outside the theater itself (in the inner lobby) while I took advantage of the facilities. While I was gone, one of the Keswick managers came up to her and asked if she would be able to sit in a regular chair. She said she thought so. He said that he could put her in the theater in her wheelchair. She asked him where would he put her. He told her in the PIT!! So she said that I was with her, and he said I could go too!
There were two pit rows off to the right side of the theater (Clays left) and so he put a chair behind that row for me, and my friend sat next to her in the wheelchair. That was the closest I have ever been in one of his non-Christmas concerts. I NEVER score pit rows. Our original seats were in GG on the aisle, so that would be 9th row. How lucky is that??

Great recap Marilyn. Sounded like special night for you gals. Really sweet about Micki. I was hoping to hear Clay would remember you. ;) That's wonderful about your seats.

Really enjoying reading all the recaps, Meet and Greet recaps, seeing the gorgeous hunk of a man pics, downloads and what NJU think. etc Feels so good to be a Clay fan right now. It can never go away.

I went with my friend to last night’s concert. She lives in Philly area and she’d never been to a Clay concert. The only two things she knows about him is American idol and gay   But after the concert she can’t stop talking about how wonderful Clay is. She said he is very handsome, very funny, loves his fans very much and his voice is so beautiful on every notes and he talks a lot (as always).  Her favorite is UM (so do I), we both did the standing-O! We had a great time last night. But she had no ideal about the screams when Clay did the shirt-tugging thingy.

forever fan

I was at the concert last night with old friends and new friends who were totally blown away by Clay! It was fabulous and kept a smile on my face the whole time! I was sitting right next to Scarlett so I tried not to block her views with my clapping or standing. It was very funny when Clay was talking to her. He was adorable, funny and powerful with his voice. My mom GrandmaJoan got to meet Clay in the PBS meet & greet so we can't wait for her to get the picture

Trying to gather coherent thoughts after a show like last night is like trying to recall a dream from which you were awaken too early. But I’m going to try.
Shari and I (my name is Kammy btw  ) got these tickets a couple weeks ago on ticketmaster. We have been to MANY Clay concerts…loved him from the beginning, but as two moms of young children, couldn’t afford many of the ‘scalper’ seats that some regular attendees had the luxury of possessing.

So when I pulled up seats in the pit, I literally cried. And when we got to the show and saw that there was no one in front of us so we were actually in 1st row…well needless to say that we were in awe of how close our boyfriend was going to be. Now Shari and I hadn’t seen Clay live since 2007. Life and geography made it impossible for us. It just never fit. We decided though, living so close to Cincinnati, that this show was a MUST for us.

Ok, so had a hard time hiding our appreciation…we were in SHOCK at how amazing he looked and sounded, and how real and close he was. It didn’t take long for him to notice the effect he had on us…especially Shari. I think after he looked her dead in the eyes and sang “There’s something ‘bout the way your lips invite” and she literally fell over on me, he knew it was ‘on’…he was going to drive us all crazy that night and OMG he did.
He sat at the end of the stage for something like 12 minutes…he finally took Shari’s phone and filmed himself thanking her for coming and for boosting his ego 7 points. The banter was amazing, ladies. He SOOO enjoyed listening to our reactions to him…absolutely ate it up.

I saw that something was going on in front of the stage and my first instinct was that someone was sick/hurt…but Clay smoothed it over nicely and I actually decided it must have been some technical error or problem with official filming or something…Clay was great about not drawing any more attention to this woman and making her night any harder than it already was.

When he sang “The Real Me” GAHHH…his voice was sooo incredibly tender.

At the buses, he saw Shari, patted her back, giggled, and thanked her for making his night! He was wearing shorts so he had to boogy.
I’m still in a fog! I have the video from Shari’s phone where he filmed himself but the audio is WAY off from his lips so I’ll have to figure out a way to fix that and I’ll post a link here later today. It’s amazing footage. He was glowing.

Wish I could afford another concert!

"He's never enough, but still he's more than I can take"-Kelly
Yeah that about sums it up.

When I drove to the Keswick in Glenside in the afternoon I was surprised to see that it was an old movie theatre restored, but it turned out to be really lovely inside. Glenside reminded me of a quaint little town that would probably roll up the sidewalks at 9:30 pm during the week, maybe midnight on a Saturday.

I had one of the PBS M&G, with 90 other people, but at least we got individual pictures with Clay. I had forgotten how handsome Jerome is. I have no recollection of the picture at all. God only knows where I was looking at the time Mary snapped it. Clay was cute in his shorts and sweatshirt. I was surprised to see his skinny, white legs.

The seats weren’t too roomy but there was enough leg room. My seat was next to a man with long, gray hair, maybe in his 50's. He was reading the program when I sat down; after a minute or so I asked him if he was a Claymate. When he didn’t answer immediately I thought uh-oh, but he was just thinking about his answer, which was “I enjoy his music.” I asked him if he’d seen Clay in concert before, which he hadn’t. So I asked him what made him decide to come to this one. He said his son goes to Johnson College and they had some tickets so he was asked to go (his son was there but seated elsewhere.) I told him he was in for a treat. He asked my how many times I’d seen Clay; when I said between 50 and 60 he seemed really surprised. I noticed he applauded for every song Clay and Quiana sang. He also clapped along through SM.

I think Ben’s intro music was cut short due to concert starting late. I only remember hearing a bit of Love Story, and Moon River.

On my other side were two guys who I think were a couple probably in their 40's. One next to me had a camera with a big zoom lens. He had the flash off and took many, many pictures of Clay. He also had a booming laugh, and really liked all of Clay’s one-liners. I didn’t see him applaud but he was holding the camera the entire time. I noticed his partner was bopping along with his knees.

Clay had some rough notes, the first one in Love Story. I noticed they weren’t on high notes, but when he came to a high note it was as though he was determined to really make it, and he did, as evidenced by the goosebumps on my arms when he hit them. He looked really handsome and thin on stage. I loved his banter with the audience. He was so interested when someone suggested Mummer’s as a music style. He’d never heard of the New Year’s Day Mummers Parade of string bands, which has been a tradition for many years. I hope someone has told him by now. He was good on the “yodeling” but I believe he can yodel as it’s close to what he’s done on Those Magic Changes and Broadway Backwards. The audience was very responsive and respectful. While Clay was singing you could have heard a pin drop.

When Clay talked to Scarlett, I explained to the guy next to me that Scarlett was the woman who had been sitting way on the left side and someone told her to move up to third row. I told him we’d have the whole concert to download later; he seemed surprised. I asked him if he was a Clay fan from the beginning and he was. He also said they listened to Clay the entire time on the over 3 hour drive to the concert. Nice to have NJU sitting on both sides.

During the concert at Glenside, don't remember which song it was, but I'd swear I heard strings like violin.
