Don't cry cause it is over, Smile cause it happened.  :)

The venue is actually quite lovely. Set up like an old fashioned show room with five rows of seats in the pit and tiers of long tables behind us. People at many of the tables are finishing dinner. Very civilized. Hope their dinner is as good as ours was.

We got a very serious "no photography or recording if any kind" lecture when we had our tickets scanned. Hope that's just SOP rather than the actual policy for tonight, but if there's going to be other celebrities, that may be an issue. Fingers crossed.

Mostly full already. Lots of men.

the singer was an 8-year-old girl wearing the Spamalot T-shirt with Clay's picture on it. Clay pointed out she was two years from being born when he was on Idol, so she couldn't know who this weird guy was. Grandma gave her the shirt to get his attention.

I would love to see a picture of that night next to a picture from this tour.

FAYES PIG TAIL STORY

Clay  is  a good son!  In Milwaukee, I heard Faye's reading.  It was a meaningful story, but she spoke very fast and it was hard to catch every word.   Clay needed down time during the show and both Nancy and Lexie were very interested in the readings.  I, for one, think that Clay has the right to make decisions about the content of his show and I also know that not everybody enjoyed the readings.  They seemed to "fit" into the theme of what song selections followed.

BTW - Yowza - In Milwaukee, he looked great, was relaxed and looked very happy.  Best of all, he sang with so much joy~

Dec 22 2012, 02:35 AM CLAYCHERIE AT CV
Just got home, way past my bedtime but will write a recap. My gd and I got there about an hour early so we bough a couple of drinks at the bar and went into the concert hall. To my surprise it was almost full and everyone was sitting at the tables drinking and eating. So we ordered a sinful chocolate desert. I was anxious to see if Arsenio would show up and stood up and finally saw him come in with his group, He was a few rows behind me and a few rows to the right so could only see his head after they sat down. His son was cute wearing a red hat, and what appeared to be Arsenio's girlfriend (Clay mentioned her name) was cute too. I don't know who the other people were. They ordered from the waiter. At our table was a young girl and her boyfriend who wasn't very happy at being there, and a very large older man with a tiny oriental lady. She was a really big fan and he was a fan too, it was their second concert. They sat and cuddled all night!. My gd got the giggles because when Clay was singing WAYDNYEthe young guy tried to put his arm around his girfriend and she pushed him away, didn't want him bothering her while Clay was singing!

Clay was absolutely perfect tonight. I did not hear one crack or even slightly off note. His voice was very powerful, don't think he even needed the mike! He looked really good too, hair nice, usual outfits. I like the sweater one the best.

The guys really like being called on and when he asked how many straight guys were there they all started waving their arms hoping he would pick on them. Even the boyfriend at my table who had been texting all night!
A few people went over to Arsenio's table and I wanted to but was too shy. I wanted to thank him for coming .
There was a line in one song about the little children going to heaven and it made me cry. Can't remember which one though as I was in a dreamy fog.
At the end everyone was waving glow sticks and if they didn't have them they waved the blue candles that were on the table. My gd waved her lit phone.

I was so glad that Arsenio was there that I felt a rush of liking for him and as we were leaving he was in the passage way with his group and to my gd's horror I dashed over, tapped him on the arm and said "Excuse me may I say "Hi" What a dumb thing to say! He didn't answer me but hugged me instead while my gd is saying" I am sorry, thank you!" She did say he was smiling! I have never done anything on my life like that before. I am too shy to ask anyone who look like fans if they are from CV in case they are not! Now she is going to put it on facebook that I attacked him! I wish it was Clay who hugged me! It was a terrific concert and I hope to see him soon. I am getting withdrawals already

eta I forgot to say Clay made a point of saying there is one straight guy here tonight Arsenio Hall. Maybe to squash the gay rumours about Arsenio. Also there were only a very few empty seats probably from people who bought tickets and couldn't make it.

COPINGINCALIFORNIA:

M&G

Well I am probably the only person still up and doing a red report. here it goes.
I can't remember anything! I'm still in the fog! LOL

Okay well here are just tid bits. I am sure others will report back with much more detail.

The meet and greet was short and sweet but still glad I had one. I don;t remember all the board names. The people there were me, Claniac2, Berkeley (yes, that Berkeley), Grandma Jane, Judy, Patty and Zee. Sorry on the non board names. We got to hear Merry Christmas with Love by just the orchestra and then Clay sang Emmanuel while they worked on the sound and the mikes. Then he came down to see us in the back of the venue. How does the man continue to look so damn young? I want whatever he's having!

He was wearing a brown hoodie (have NO idea which one), grey sweat pants that were pactically falling off of him and blue/white sneakers. Hair of perfection. Skin of perfection. Stubble. Everyone got a hand shake and then he immediately started signing things. Claniac2 has never met him before (except at Gala group photo) so she brought 2 things to sign. He said he could only do one and I piped up "But she won the ebay auction!" Oops. Should've stayed quiet. he shot back:" You think you have more privileges now." A dig at me winning the Bubel/AIken award I am sure. Kind of took me by surprise since I have NEVER asked for special treatment EVER. I have had 3 group photos (2 Galas, one dinner) in the past 2 years and you can;t see me in any of the photos. Literally blocked in all three! I have never asked for anything to resolved that issue. And no picture with Clay or Diane when I did win the award! Anyway I digress....

We took our photos (I leaned in a lot so hope that one comes out!) and got hugs and that was that. Oh, he did end up signing LTS for both me and Claniac2, the brat!

COPINGIN CALIFORNIA RECAP:

Dinner was nice and we sat with a mom and her daughter (age 24 maybe) and her young friend. They are not on the boards but definite fans. A few fans I don't know arrived later. It was a happy group. We all got along well and had a terrific time at the concert.

While eating dinner we noticed Arsenio arrive. He sat the next table over from us with his son, girlfriend and 3 other friends. I was the first person to go over and say hello. I thanked him for helping me in the dark at the Gala back stage. He was very gracious then and now.

Others started to come over so he got up and went to a random table (I think Scootyboots table?) and took a short video of the fans. It may already have been posted by him? I haven't read back. He stayed for the whole show.

Now to Clay. What can I say? The voice of an angel. My favorite songs were the sentimental medley, maybe because this is my first Christmas EVER with no family here (DD and BF are back in NY, my folks and brother I saw at Thanksgiving) so I was a bit teary eyed during "I'll Be Home For Christmas". The medley was perfection.

Clay looks so damn thin but healthy. I asked him at the m&g what was in the drink he tweeted that Ben was drinking he said he had no idea, but I am sure he does know.

I only took 2 pictures, one of the top of the menu and another off the giant screen (not very good).

My favorite banter was the "actors, singers, dancers, elves, fairies." He milked that fairy line for ever. The audience started to clap and he said "not in 2005" (meaning he wasn't out then). It was hysterical.

I'm glad I got to hear Christmas Clay live and see so many West Coast fans. BTW lots of NJU in the crowd and men!

Hope he doesn't stay away too long.

Ok time to read back.

PNGNDANCER AT CV

No Coping You're not the last one up. This red report comes to you from myself (pngndancer), claybella, goneclayzy and claynation(Cathie). We are STILL up!!! In our room and still in a Clay fog!!!

What can I say about being in the first row. Same as last night only better. (5th row last night) OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG OMFG!!! He is absolutely f**cking gorgeous and with stubble even more so!!!

Voice was impeccable! He was full of fun. The glo sticks, the fairies - he was shameless, milking it for all he could. This was absolutely an amazing concert. The little girl that he called up for the 12 days of Christmas was so cute. She really called out her Grandma. She sang well and cracked Clay up a couple of times. This was an amazing night. Filled with great music, great fun, great friends. Just absolutely one of the best nights. I'm not good at writing and my entourage are not helping at all. (well not much anyway). I'm sure you all get the message. He is Clay and that's really all one needs to know to know that this was an amazing night.

Oh yeah, lots of not just us and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Oh yeah again, he said the Southern California audience was the best, a combination of all his audiences. He loved the glo sticks and was beaming.

He only mentioned twice that the world was coming to an end even though he said he was only going to mention it once. He also said that the reason he doesn't let Ben talk is because Ben talks dirty. Cracked Ben up.

He was very proud of himself that he didn't mess up any lyrics half way through the show. We think he made it two days in a row and he wanted a sign to put on the piano. He said he hadn't done that in the whole tour.

Another highlight was a trumpet solo. He was terrific. Then at the end he came out for the encore and came out right in front of us and almost in Claybella's lap. It was really hard not to reach out and touch hm as he came by. He was so close you could actually almost touch him. No one did but everyone sure wanted to. He was that close.

Now before I send this one I have to say that my entourage stepped up since I wrote that they didn't and have added to this wonderful (YES IT IS WONDERFUL-I did have to beat them though to get them to step up) recap. It's freakin' late and so off to bed we go.

YMARIE AT CV

Up early to get on the road home, but truthfully, I don't think I slept more than an hour all night anyway. Since so many others write great recaps, let me just say that, since I could only see one concert this year, I'm glad it was this one. The venue was nice, and full. Clay was perfection in everything: clothes, hair, showmanship and voice. As much as I love the glory notes, it's those low notes that really get to me. I had to hold back somewhat, or the cellcert would have just been me moaning, . Most of the audience was respectful, a few camera flashes, and one Chatty Kathy behind me that kept talking through the first few songs. (She finally quieted down, thank goodness). The audience seemed to really enjoy him, and the few men by me were the ones taking the most pictures.

We were off to the left, so most of the night we got to look at his right profile. He has the most gorgeous jaw and cheekbones from that angle. His hair looked so soft and touchable.

CLAYBUTTONS

What a wonderful evening at the Grove. The dinner was terrific - much better than I thought it would be and also the service was great.

The concert seemed to go by so fast - I think I was in the Aiken Fog! I was so amazed at how wonderful he sounded and looked - best ever.
I took my landlady and she loved it - said it was much more than she expected and she was raving how handsome and talented he was.
There was a young couple in their 30's at our table who came because they loved him on AI. Can you believe they don't even have cable?
They said they were too busy and just bought DVD's of shows they wanted to watch. You could say they really were Clay virgins and they
loved it. It is impossible for me to recap other than it was a night I really needed and I will never forget.

It was also wonderful to see so many long time friends. I feel blessed to have all of you in my life. Clay walked within a foot of me on
his last song and I really was in a daze!

I felt the concert was a perfect blend of fun and music. I was so thrilled to see so many families there and I think Clay has probably
gained many new fans. He really blew the roof off with several songs ( the sound was great). "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" was beyond amazing in
person. I just don't understand why this man is not all over TV! No one has the talent he has!!

Thanks to all for the videos, pictures, etc. I don't want it to be over!!!

Today I am running around trying to do all the things I should have gotten done already for Christmas, but couldn't get done....mainly because of work.

My Clay concerts in St. Charles, Chandler and Anaheim were the gifts to me from Clay, my dear, dear, dear Clay friends and all the wonderful fans I got to greet and hug at my concerts....and even those that I have discovered I missed greeting.

How incredibly fortunate we all are that this special man with the stellar voice and enormous heart brought us all together.

Last night was "local" for me, but I still saw people from all over that I hadn't seen in a long time, and it was really special.

The venue was great....nice staff, really good crowd. I had 2 men behind me that were so excited to be there and whooped and hollered all night and had nothing but extravagant praise for Clay. That was way cool.

Clay really poured it on last night. He was singing the big stuff all the way from his toes, and the tender songs were just exquisite hugs to all of us.

I won't have time until after Christmas to work on my pictures or talk in more detail about my wonderful experiences, but here's one from last night that sort of jumped out at me.

I didn't mean to be zoomed in so much, but the camera lever was misbehaving a bit. Today I've decided I'm not mad at my camera after all.

Just watched them all. You were right his voice was outstanding! Hope we can see the rest of the show. Nothing at CU yet.

Wanted to bring Johanna's recap over if she doesn't mind.

Well RTMers, I'm home...arrived here around 11:45 PM after an another amazing Claying.  I am really glad that I had patient friends with me.  We left here in the afternoon and arrived there by 3 PM.  Any later than that and we would have been stuck in horrific traffic, of that I am sure.

We first went to the venue and picked up our tickets at will call.  With that, we were able to check out the parking situation and scope out the venue a little.  We weren't allowed in until 6 PM for those of us having dinner there...which was required in Tier 2 and more seats...the first Tier was the pit.  Then, we went over to a near by Hyatt...just about a mile away, and hung out there...had a bite to eat, since dinner would be hours later.

We returned to the venue and hung out in the car waiting...took the opportunity to hear our life stories...lol...become further acquainted with my new retirement friends.  Later we were allowed in to the venue, and found our seats.  They were great...super view of the stage ...maybe only about a car length and a half away.  Immediately, we were waited on...my friends had some meatball sliders and split a salad.  I had a chicken Marsala pasta...and we shared some creme brulee...sp.  While the food wasn't cheap, it was reasonably tasty.

While we waited for Clay, it was a fan reunion...fun to see my old local Clay friends again...it had been too long...since he appeared with Ruben in LA.  Shortly before Clay appeared, Arsenio arrived...could see his son...they were seated at a table in the level behind us.

Clay began...he used that great opening...since there was a curtain...and then it all began.  I have sorely missed his glorious voice.  The place had fairly decent acoustics and his voice soared...filled the hall.  There were a number of men in attendance...and young couples too.  (It must make Clay feel much better that there is an improved mix of an audience this tour.)  And...just as he came on, there were male I love yous...lol.  Glad that people feel free enough to express their affection for him now.

Most notable, was how much richer and controlled his voice is...while it has always been simply exceptional, the maturity is quite apparent.  And, even though his speaking voice was a bit hoarse...he was able to perform completely on pitch and without a single wobble/or crack.  I think he has become more technically adept...and has learned to protect his instrument these days...or was just lucky to avoid getting the creeping crud/flu bugs this time around.

My favorite rendition of the night, The First Noel...the brass section was excellent...and stood during that last verse.  And...a really special treat...I thought he might walk right by us for his encore, and by golly he did...just inches away from me.  I couldn't see his face...the spotlight was right on him...blinded me almost...lol.  Perhaps there will be some good clack of that!  I learned Scarlett was at this concert too...I think she sat in the first or second row.

My friends loved every minute of it...they had never heard him sing Christmas songs, nor heard him live.  They were thrilled to hear him sing all over again on the way home, we played his Christmas CD.

He is such a gift to us...and indeed, I am grateful to have my heart and soul lifted this holiday season by this dear artist.

Thanks for your well wishes...and I have to still catch up on about 4 more pages of the thread...sending hugs to those who had to miss their concert...and to those dealing with health issues and loss...especially hard at this time of year.

Grandma Jane: I hope it is ok to post my Anaheim M&G Recap here.

I think the picture from the Anaheim M&G got to my home before I did. The file was HUGE!!! There will be no problem printing a high quality of this photo.

CLAYONLY and I were excited to discover that we both got a M&G. We had a lot of fun getting our picture taken in the same group at the "National Inclusion Project" Gala in October and now we would have a second picture together with Clay.

She was driving to the concert with two friends and was going to pick me up at the hotel on the way to the M&G. Only there was a bit of frazzle getting there on time. Earlier that day the time was moved to 4:30 instead of 5:00. Clay said he didn't even know this was dinner theater when they set the time and the theater needed more time to get the tables set. I didn't have a computer with me and don't have my inexpensive cell phone set up for text messages. CLAYONLY called me when we were at lunch so I got the message late.

But I worried that they would move the time and warned another lady to be over at the theater Very Early.

When the first ladies arrived I was so surprised they recognized me and gave me a warm "Hello, Grandma Jane. How wonderful to see you again", remembering me from other Clay events in San Francisco.

Soon two more ladies joined us. That made 4 ladies for the OFC M&G and the two ladies with the EBAY auction M&G. One lady was missing, the lady I warned to be early. Unfortunately she doesn't post on the boards and this was the first time I talked to her. (If you are lurking, a big hello to you.) She was staying at my hotel but I didn't know her last name. Clay's manager said maybe they could arrange a rain check M&G for her if she didn't show up soon, and she escorted us into the theater. The last lady luckily showed up before Clay came out.

I was nervous about doing this M&G. People who have met me (been subjected to a Grandma attack, poor things) know I am a nutty, big talker. I'm usually excited and talk very fast. And Lord, don't get me talking about Clay. I had a couple rows in the front of the plane going when we flew down to Anaheim, giving them the entire history of Clay.

But I try to be respectful and more adult when doing something important. Anytime I get near Clay I am very business like, at least I try. I know Clay has many people to see and I try to follow every rule exactly to make it easier for him. I don't shake his hand, or put my arm around him, never trying to touch him.

Another problem I have is when I get near him I find I can't look up at his face. I fuss with something like my purse while I get his autograph at Spamalot or get a CD signed at the Virgin Megastore, look up in time for a picture, but never look at Clay. And it always feels that he is correcting me. I'm upsetting him, so I follow his every direction precisely. After it is over, everyone says he is laughing the whole time we are doing this but I am oblivious, the Aiken Fog.

This however was a dream M&G for me.

We waited for Clay at one of the back tables set at a 90 degree angle to the stage. The orchestra was playing and then Clay came out wearing a worn, dark blue Clemson hoodie and gray sweat pants. His hair looked good, a recent haircut, the style shorter than during most of the tour with a bit of a wave in the front. He stood a bit rubbing his eyes for a bit like he just woke up and then ran through Emmanuel with Joe, his sound guy, standing beside him signaling the man up in the control booth. They turned up the mic, turned it off a bit while Clay spoke a second to the orchestra. Clay resumed singing. Joe signaled the booth to turn the sound back up for the ending. and it was LOUD. I laughed watching him sing while his fingers were busy the entire time texting on his phone. He left the stage and slowly ambled to the back of the theater still texting as he walked.

Clay looked up just as he reached the table and said “Hel-lo, everyone. How are you all?”

I noticed then Clay had a bit of stubble. When Clay shook my hand and asked my name I answered as I always do, “Grandma Jane,....er-r-r Jane__”. He leaned down and looked at my face and in a very gentle voice asked, “You're Grandma Jane?” I answered “Yes”

He went on to the other ladies, doing his teacher thing correcting a few others about what they were allowed to ask for. Then he picked up the items to sign while he spoke to each person about where they were they lived.

CLAYONLY and I were sitting together. We each brought the same Gala picture from last October to get autographed. We also both wanted to tell Clay about the California School for the Deaf.

I took the front page of our local newspaper to show Clay while he was signing pictures. When I told him where I was from, Fremont CA, I said that this was the city in the 'Kite Runner' book, where the Afghani family lived in America and flew their kites in our Central Park.

<snip>.

The M&G continued on so differently it actually felt a bit strange . Clay then told us it was time for the picture. After positioning the front three ladies, he looked at me, asked the first three to march forward ten steps, held open his left arm and softly said, “...and Grandma Jane, you stand right here,” tucking me under his left arm, before moving the other 3 back into place. I remember him touching the left shoulder of the lady in front of me and asking her to "scoot down some and move over so Grandma Jane's face can be seen in the picture" before he told me to move my face over onto his shoulder so it would be a better position. Goodness, his arm felt great against my back and face, so warm and solid.

CLAYONLY said, “I don't have to scoot down. I'm not tall.”

Clay responded, “ Yes you are...not tall.” and got us all laughing.

After the photos, he turned to me and I started to step away saying, at bit over my shoulder, “ Thank you so much for the M&G, Clay. It was wonderful.”

But he opened his arms wide, stopping me and inviting me in and gave me the biggest, longest, hug. I was so startled I actually gave a "Woo" squeal of surprise when he hugged me. In all these 10 years I have never got a hug. I believe everyone else also got a hug before they left.

I am so happy. At Last! At this meeting I was able to look him in the face, actually shook his hand and finally got my Big Clay hug.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas season with Big Clay hugs too,
Grandma Jane

Flew home from sunny Anaheim yesterday and miss our Cluncheon party group already.  What a wonderful 2 days of talking Clay, eating at the Catch across from the Grove venue and meeting other fans like Zipppy and Scarlett.  Then, the most polished Clay I have seen.  I kept saying to friends, he was so confident, his voice was magnificent, the clothes sophisticated and, forgive me, the beautifully groomed red stuff on top of his head made him even more handsome.  (didn't say hair, don't shave it).  Someone finally said, He is grown up now--he is a man.

A lot of NJU sitting in the pit.  The husbands in front of me really appreciated his voice and nodded approval.  Yes, we shared glow sticks.  I was between fans waving in opposite directions but my eyes are protected by glasses. lol   My favs: tape recorder introduction, little girl's interaction with Clay, Mary Did You Know and Clay walking down the center aisle singing the gentle, touching All Year Long and disappearing into the night.
Smiling No. California fan, Mary Anne

So, I got to see Clay at City National Grove of Anaheim thanks to my friend taking me to the show. Not only did I get an acknowledgement from Clay from the stage, I got a hug from him and a cute quick photo. This was my first time getting a picture with him and it was the first time getting to hug him. I am SO happy! What an amazing Christmas gift from my friend Michael Craig. I've been waiting 10 years doe this! Since I was 15/16.

QUOTE (crazyforclay1130 @ Dec 26 2012, 12:12 AM)
Now that Christmas is winding down I finally had time to do my Meet and Greet Report. Here it is.....

At my Meet and Greet I was the only one there that had never met Clay before. I was told about the Aiken fog and I was determined to take in every moment of this experience that I could. We were led in to the back of the theater and sat down at a table. The orchestra was already playing and standing there on the stage was Clay. Dressed in a deep purple hoodie that said Clemson in orange on the front and gray sweat pants. After he finished the sound check he slowly walked toward the back of the theater where we were but he stopped twice to look at his phone. He walked up said Hello then shook the hand of the lady next to me sitting on the end and asked her name. Then he came to me. I stood up because I wanted to see those beautiful eyes. He shook my hand and asked my name. I told him, and then impulsively said “Can I have a hug?” He shook his finger and said ta ta snarkly to tell me no. I was not offended and sat down never taking my eyes off him. He finished saying Hello to everyone then came back and stood behind the girl next to me and started signing the things we brought to sign. While signing the lady’s item next to me he looked at me and asked where I was from. I told him and he remarked “That is not too far from here is it?” I was surprised he knew about my City. He then came and stood next to me and reached down and picked up the CD I brought for him to sign. He spelled my name all but the last letter to ask if it was with an I or Y. I answered and told him this was the first time I had the pleasure to meet him and had been a fan since day one. He said aww that is so nice. As he handed me back my CD my hand touched his and he seemed to linger there as if to let me touch him. He then moved to my other side and signed the lady’s item next to me. I told him “You did great with the Interview on TV that morning” He said “Did I? I was half asleep!” He continued to stand there the whole time while he signed the ladies things that were seated on the other side of the table. I looked up at him the whole time. He is so handsome! More so in person than in any picture I have ever seen of him if you can imagine that. At one time as he stood next to me he ran his fingers through his hair like he does and swept it back away from his face. I almost died when he did that! After he had the pictures with the Auction winner and her friend he called us over for our group picture. I went and stood next to Clay and he put his arm around me. It felt sooo good! He looked the group over and positioned us according to size. He put his hand on my back and the ladies next to me and had us move forward. He put the taller two ladies in back next to him and shorter in front. After the picture was taken he turned and hugged the two ladies on either side of him and then the ones in front. Because he turned down my hug in the beginning I stood there sweetly and waited my turn. He turned to me gave a sweet laugh and said “Come here” he wrapped his arms around me and gave me the biggest hug ever. I hugged him back and told him I love him and thanked him. He then turned and walked back to the stage. We gave the tour manager the gifts we brought for him and were escorted outside. The whole thing lasted only 20 minutes.
The concert was amazing. I think Clay got a kick out of the gift I gave him because during the second song our eyes met and he flashed a big smile right at me and I smiled back. I know it was a smile for me because the people sitting around me asked did you see Clay smile at you? Oh boy did I!! After the concert I went out behind the venue to see Clay leave. After waiting only 30 minutes he walked outside and started to get in the waiting car. There were about 20 to 30 of us standing out there so he decided to come over to see the waiting fans. I was near the end of the line and he walked directly to me took hold of both of my hands and said “Now you got to see me twice today!” He then continued down the line touching everyone’s hand and thanked them for coming. He then got in the car and they drove away.
It was a magical night. A dream come true for me. Clay touched me 7 times! I am still on cloud nine and love Clay even more now if that is even possible.

Patty

Wonderful recaps and clack! Clay made this tour really special for all of us. Can't wait for the next one!
