Miami, FL - Feb. 10, 2011 The Adrienne Arsht Center

Clay Aiken
KNIGHT CONCERT HALL [View Seat Map]
Thursday, February 10, 2011, 7:30pm

Clay Aiken has never sounded more at home than he does singing the lushly arranged classics on his fifth studio album Tried and True - the international pop phenomenon's first album for Decca Records. The bulk of the album - which showcases Aiken's powerful tenor voice and considerable interpretive gifts - is made up of songs from the '50s and '60s that Aiken grew up listening to as a child in Raleigh, North Carolina.

FROM CV:

Quote
The correct date is Thursday, February 10.....8:00pm start time

www.wpbt.org

$250.00 for a pair.....no seat numbers...just best seats available ....

$5.00 for shipping....they will mail hard tickets to you.....

My assumption is that seats will be assigned in the order they are ordered.....

BTW....all $250 is tax deductable......

FROM CV: This recap of the Miami pledge breaks was so cute, I just had to bring it over from the CC.

Posted by idlefan:

He taped an interview in Miami and that's what they used for every pledge break, pieces and part of a fantastic little interview. Our guy was sooooooooooo gorgeous. I wrote down two quotes, one from the interviewer and the other from the women in the studio live tonight. The interviewer, talking live tonight in studio, said, and I quote, "Yes, his skin really is that good!" BWAH! And the woman said, just before signing out, while pitching the concert tickets one more time, "Come and be one with Clay Aiken." Well, okay, if you insist! *g*

Hi Tiffany and Marilyn!  :)

I'm looking so forward to this cellcert!  My mom, Aunt and Uncle are at the show.  They all happen to be vacationing down there and my mom couldn't stand the thought of being so close without going.  This will be her first Clay concert without me...lol  I'm so jealous!!!

Sunny and MIchelle are going to that one and they have a Meet and Greet too. Hope you get too. I'm sure they are good seats still out there to buy. Going to Towson, MD on the 22nd. Just close to home. Don't have enough money to travel this time.

Tiffany - Glad you'll get to go to a show! :)  That's awesome Sunny and Michelle have meet & greets.  I dvr'd Tried & True and didn't watch it until the next day.  I was so upset when I saw how inexpensive the m&g's were.  Oh well.  I'm happy for everyone who will get to meet him.  I still hold on to the couple of minutes I spent with him on the phone on Valentine's Day a few years ago.  ;)

Marilyn - I am SOOOOO ready for this too!  Can't wait to hear all about it!!!

Can't believe in March it will be a year ago when we saw the PBS taping. Some Meet and Greets were cheaper then others. Wish I could had afford one.  :( I'm curious to hear how those PBS ones were tonight. Thinking it's quicker then the fan club ones. He has a lot of people to meet every night. THere are quite a few lucky Claymaniacs that will see him.

Just got off the phone . . . . so I missed a page or two!

Hi Barbara and Glory!   I would love to be "hearing" him, but so glad that Marilyn, Tiffany and Cindy are giving us the red words!  :)

Clay belongs on a stage singing to us!  How is the crowd reaction??  Can anybody tell if there is lots of applause?

Mom said this was a very toned down show.  She said it was Clay, Quiana and 4 people playing instruments.  She said he had on a nice sweater and she didn't know how to explain his hair stlye to me...lol.  I told her how suprised i was that she called me for the whole show.  She said he sounded so good she had to call and then she didn't have the heart to hang up on me so I couldn't listen to him anymore.  I love my Mom!!  ;D  I told her she was a big help to us tonight. ;)  She was running across the highway when I called so she said she would call me tomorrow.  If she gives me anything else that I don't see posted I will come back and post it.

Gray Cashmere sweater, striped shirt, tie, jeans,

Sat on the front of the stage in front of Scarlett and sang a couple of songs.

Messed up the lyrics on Solitaire and a couple of other minor glitches.

He made comments about the size of the audience.

When he sang love story it sounded like he sang just to his fans.

He looked skinny- but he said it was so casual he didnt wear a belt

He was borrowing Ben's belt but it was 2 inches too small and that Ben needed a cheeseburger

His earpiece didnt work too well and he was fiddling with his mike and sort of broke it

He threw the pieces he broke across the stage

They used tracks in the back- strings

Was reading the article in the Miami newspaper about the fellow that was killed by the rooster and while doing it they were autotuning his voice and he sounded like Britney Spears, etc

He was trying to show that anyone can sing today with autotunes.
'

Lots more men- tremendous amount of men

Lots of standing ovations.

Solitaire- the note was excellent even though he flubbed it a bit

Will do.  When I talked to mom earlier I asked her if he did an encore.  She said, what is that?  I said, did he leave the stage and come back and sing another song?  she said, no, Solitaire was his last song.  I said, Solitaire, you hung up after Unchained Melody!!!  She said, oh yea, but he just kept singing after I hung up... and he sang some Bette Middler song too, and he dedicated it to all teachers.   She is a trip!  Not a seasoned cell certer but it sure was wonderful to hear his voice.  Good night everyone.

Wearing jeans, gray shoes, cashmere sweater, striped shirt, tie.

Hair was Ed Grimley -- Clay joked about having worked on his hair for a long time so no one could criticize it, which cracked up the band.

At the start, stage was black and band started playing Love Story intro -- Clay started singing, and then stepped from the darkness into the spotlight on the mike.

After Crying, Clay gave Quiana a nice long hug.

Concert seemed very intimate, like he was singing to friends. (although the venue seemed a little too big for this kind of concert)

Read from the newspaper and had his voice autotuned while he did it, to demonstrate how anything can be autotuned to sound decent.

Crowd about half women and half men.

Voice sounded great, hit some of the big notes right out of the park.

Asked for suggestions of musical styles for Who's Sorry Now -- rejected reggae, but sang surf/Beach Boys style, country (which he could do because he was wearing jeans), and I think she said rap?

From Clayboard

posting an update from Joy2talk2U:

She was with Laura Q who was able to get much of the concert, despite the tight security. They think other clack folks got some video too.

The last three songs were Unchained Melody, In My Life, Solitaire. She said it was incredible.

They are going to start working on and uploading video.

Darn it and LOL about the hair. Maybe the Hard Rock tomorrow won't be as strict with the cameras.

You are welcome Barbara.

Cindy-Your mom is funny. Love to meet her someday. :) Don't be a stranger. So nice seeing you.

The Hard Rock was AWFUL with cameras for the SRHP tour- they confiscated them on the line going in and you had to pay a few dollars to get them back.

Nevertheless, there WAS clack so lets see how it goes!!

thankful for Clay at CV:

Back from the concert. I was SO close - I could see his whiskers. He called on me when he asked who listens to the radio. I was surprised when he asked who. It took me a few seconds and then I said Bruno Mars.

I took some video and some pictures - but not much. There was an announcement that it wasn't allowed. One of the ladies I was sitting with said that one of the ushers commented on how nice Clay was and that they were going to let people take pictures. The guy who caught me near the end of the concert must not have gotten the memo.

I hope someone else was able to get Clack. I have the SD card loading to my laptop right now and I need to eat something.

He was in magnificent voice, as was Quiana. If you don't have a ticket, buy one.

Read this on the OFC. From AlabamaClay wrote:

Just got back from the Miami show and it was wonderful. We were a small group but tried to be as enthusiastic as possible for him. There are 4 band members. Ben & a guitarist on one side of the stage and Felix on drums and another guitarist that also plays the cello, I think that is what it is called, is on the other side of the stage. Clay stands front & center with Quiana joining him off & on. He joked a bit about the small crowd but I tell you what, he sang and put on a show like he was playing to an arena full of people. He gave us his all and when he ended with Solitaire he was flying!! Singing the newspaper was funny and when he sang invisible & did a little shirt tug for us, well what can I say, I just smiled from ear to ear. Said he will see what happens when he sings the phone book in Orlando tomorrow....can't wait!!

So, about the rooster fight...

So you caught Clay reading the Miami Dissenter ( make that Herald) to the autotune. Only in Miami would a news story involve a guy getting stabbed by a knife-wielding rooster. Seriously, stabbed in the calf by a knife strapped to the leg of a rooster. As Clay read and the rhythm built, Q would repeat a word or two, you know, sing backup. Close your eyes and imagine it. Okay. The hapless victim actually died (seems every Clay concert requires a story about somebody dying!) but they don't know exactly why, after all it was a calf wound, not a chest wound, but here's where it gets really good...the story ends with "No word on whether it happened during a rooster fight." Now remember, Q is repeating words for effect. But she would not bring herself to say "rooster" and Clay thought that was funny.

Maybe you had to be there...

Nah, it was hysterical!

I'm hitting "submit" but I'll be back for more.

This was a fabulous show and I couldn't love this man more if I tried!

My M&G recap from Miami, Florida

My family & I got to the box office at 5 p.m.. Along came 2 others who won the OFC M&G. I'll let them reveal their names to you in their own time. Later on the ebay winners came by as well. Jerome gathered us all in and took us to the room. The room had no chairs, just cocktail tables and a wallpaper with the theatre name written all over it. I thought that would be a good background for pictures. There were 8 of us in total. One of the OFC winners did not turn up. It was a guy!

In strolls Clay! He looked around the room and recognised some people from before. His eyes landed on me and he called out my first name! Gosh, it was strange to hear him call my name! He looked good with his hair pushed back with his sunglasses; he wore a blue polo shirt, jeans and runners. Because there were no chairs, we stood around Clay. Clay just happened to stand on the electrical outlet and he kept stomping on it as it was getting under his feet! LOL

He then asked us where we were from and all along, he was joking and laughing with everyone. Then, he proceeded to sign our items. I whipped out my Clay Aiken calendar that I had just made in December with the Timeless Tour photos I had taken.

Some of the questions I remembered him being asked were: the NY broadway thing that was mentioned in the interview today is a lie; he may be touring with Ruben again.

He told us that he was on a liquid diet of milk and water. He has not eaten fried foods for a while. LOL He said all this sugar-free diet is making him a little grumpy.

Then, we all lined up to have our pictures taken with Clay and he extended his arm and I just snuggled up to him!

Then, he was quickly whisked away and we were out at 6:10 p.m. What a thrill that was! I'll never forget it!

We got everything from TnT except Esso Besso and Misty; we got Something About Us, In My Life, and a beautiful new arrangement of Solitaire; we got three funny bits --- autotuned news, current songs including his two radio hits in big band style, and Who's Sorry Now in reggae/surf and country twang; we got one duet, Crying and two fabulous solos from Q; we got lots of great guitar work, more jazzy keyboards from Ben than I thought possible, a rimshot from Felix and a standing bass player without a raccoon on his head. We got "happy" Clay (in more ways than one!), sexy Clay, silly Clay, romantic Clay, sentimental Clay, ringing from the rafters and gentle voiced Clay. We got the whole package tonight. And I mean that exactly as you read it. *G*

etaa: And there were a whole bunch of meers there tonight who did not put their names on the representing list. You know you are. Just sayin'... put your names on the list, people!

To clarify: I asked the question: Can you expand on the information about you possibly doing something in New York again. He said 'yes it's a lie'. Then proceeded to say that there are some rumblings in the background which he doesn't like to talk about because he usually ends up jinxing anything that might happen. (end of the discussion).

This was OMG all over again and then some....Love Story...Solitaire, made for a perfect show and I'm looking forward to it again tomorrow. Loved all the stuff in the middle too. Quiana was the best, the very best I have ever heard her.

Another thing I 'heard' differently, he is not on a liquid diet, as he said he is trying to eat healthy. Just drinking water and some milk, giving up the 'soda' and juice, none on the bus.

JASR His vocal were tremendous and as I am sure FloridaAiken and K4Clay2 can attest, having him sit on stage and sing two songs right in front of us was AMAZING. The hair, the stubble, the eyelashes the fingers, I just kept studying it all. It has been too long since I have seen him alone on stage and it was well worth the wait. Wish I could have gotten some clack but sadly being close to the aisle made me too visible.

Absolutely reconsider! It is a beautiful evening. Intimate.....yes! A beautiful voice........omg yes! It is nothing like any other show and I loved it. His voice was subtle and nuanced and then it just soared! He needs to be heard in person. When he sang UM it got me.....I mean really got me right in my gut! I could just feel the song vibrating through me. Gosh I sound like a fan! Well yes I am and if he continues to sing to me like that I will be a fan forever!

Mini recap from the CC

 (idlefan @ 10 February 2011 - 11:05 PM)
I know everyone wanted more from On My Way Here, but the show tonight was really special. That opening number rocked the rafters, and his Solitare closed it the same way. In between, he gave us all the shades and nuances he's perfected over the last 8 years onstage. He was charming, funny, personal, familiar, powerful, gracious. He was just perfect, in my eyes. Yes, the hair was attrocious and he was so proud of it! Said it took 6 cans of hairspray and would be flaking off on his sweater all evening *g*. He was very appreciative of the building but the accoustics, which would have been fabulous with a full orchestra, were not so great for a 4 man band...the echos gave him fits. He walked the stage, came way down front, sat on the edge for a couple of the more tender ballads, pulled out a stool for "In My Life". Fiddled with his mic stand until he broke it. The set list was fun, with a pretty even mix of tempos. I loved hearing him open with something we'd not heard before, and the way they translated The Way and Invisible to big band sound was great fun. He even gave us a tiny shirt tug for old times' sake. *g*

I'll try to come up with a more cohesive recap tomorrow, but I wanted to get something in writing tonight.

I hope Clay was happy with the show and the response. He worked hard, he gave me my money's worth. I was entertained and I'm looking forward to doing it all over again on Saturday.

I really love that man.

Oh, about the hair. When he bragged about how hard he'd worked on it and the band started laughing, Felix hit a rim shot and Clay told him not to start. BWAH!

Actually, that was the little Invisible tug. The rooster fighting his pants was a bonus. Clay has an irrational love of those baggy-ass jeans, but baggy zipper area does provide interesting photo opportunities. *g*

I work with numbers all day but am really bad at guessing how many people may be in the house. The center orchestra was not full to the back of the room. The front orchestra was not full to the middle of the house. There were scattered people in the lower boxes, and one lonely guy up in the second tier that caught Clay's eye. Clay told those folks in the boxes that we could squeeze them in downstairs. In fact, he made several funny but sad remarks about the size of the crowd throughtout the evening. While waiting in line for my cattle-call --- my PBS M&G --- I overheard the PBS rep say that they would be talking about how they fell down on promotion, because in her words, "there is no reason those seats should have been empty." And it sounded like the station is taking responsibility for the failure to adequately promote. They played the special many times, but beyond that I don't know what else they did to sell this fabulous evening. Granted, I do not listen to radio any more except in the car, so I don't know if they ever put any ads on air --- they didn't get any on AC during drive time. I don't think there were any print ads, there was no billboard, it was not listed in local entertainment schedules until the last week or so. As to whether PBS pulled in any new folks, I hope somebody else has some feel for that because I didn't really notice. From where I sat, it was mostly us.

All that said, I think we showed him the love. He definitely worked for it last night. If he were to ask my advice, which he won't, my only notes involve hairspray, dress pants and a lap dance for the blonde in the kickass boots. And adding "The Real Me" and "Sacrificial Love". Oh, and practicing "Who's Sorry Now" in the gospel/polka/folk/techno/classical style. But honestly, he doesn't need to change a thing to please me. He already does that in spades.

My PBS M&G was the old fashioned slam-bam-thank you ma'am style. Line up, no cameras, no autographing (one exception for a fan who travelled from overseas), "Hi, whatsyername, thanks for yer support, SMILE, thanks again" and gently direct you to the sidelines to watch the others move through the line. My hubby gave him the surf/beach theme for "Who's Sorry Now" (old Beach Boy fan, sue me!) and Clay thanked him twice for his "participation". The station took photos and gave us a website to download from in a couple of days. I remembered to remove my glasses but kept my damn red purse (stuffed with camera and CDs!) under my arm, essentially pushing poor hubby out of the picture I'm afraid, and probably ruining the photo as well. Trust me, there was nothing coming between me and my boyfriend for that shot. He just reaches around and pulls you in so close and comfy. I've met him several times, hell, I gave him CHILLS, but he never remembers me from year to year. Go figure. This time I'm blaming it on my 85 pound weight loss...I'm 2/3 the woman I was on our last date, so he's forgiven. After a few minutes of standing around watching other men and women try to make off with my beau, I felt a coughing jag coming on and beat a hasty exit to keep from spreading whatever this cold thing is around. Mary thanked me. heh. Seriously, I didn't breathe the whole time my face was next to Clay's anyway. I'm sure he's safe. No, really. I didn't let that cough go until I was safely out the door and headed for the ladies room and a hankie. And that's the extent of my M&G. Until the next time Clay forgets he's met me before. *g*

Note: His hair looked better up close, after 2 hours of humidity took some of the starch out of it. Or maybe I just got used to it after the initial shock. Either way, he looked good enough to eat. The shoulders certainly helped. Ydle thinks he's looking a little chunky. Do you think my husband might be just a little jealous after all these years? hmmmm....

DISCUSSION ON PBS PROMOTION

And this from the CH:

I overheard the PBS rep say that they would be talking about how they fell down on promotion, because in her words, "there is no reason those seats should have been empty." And it sounded like the station is taking responsibility for the failure to adequately promote. They played the special many times, but beyond that I don't know what else they did to sell this fabulous evening
I'm glad they saw it that way. They have to realize that there are only so many people who will buy expensive PBS pledge tickets and they have to reach out to non PBS watchers to fill the rest of the seats. It makes the concert more profitable and they could also end up getting more PBS supporters after the fact.
Actually, about three weeks ago I got a message from the pledge director at my station, asking me to give the Miami station a call and see what I could do to help their PR people with ideas for selling out this concert. (Clay must have made quite an impression during the brief time he was here, because this was the first time I'd ever been approached about anything like this. It seems they really wanted to help make it/him a success. I must say I was touched.)

Anyway, I called and found myself on a conference call with three very nice ladies from Miami PBS who said very nice things about Clay -- I told them I could put something out on the fan message boards, but that frankly any online fans who were even marginally paying attention already knew about the tour, and most who were planning to go to this show had bought their tickets weeks ago. If any were still on the fence, I said, they were probably waiting on the weather. (As I said this, about six inches of snow had fallen outside my office window, and they seemed not to understand -- "Weather? Why would that be a problem?" Must be nice, seldom having to take winter and its vicissitudes into consideration. *g*)

So I advised them to focus on the NJU crowd and they assured me that they were -- they ran through a bunch of things they were doing to get the word out. (I think one of the ladies on this call was in that video that included a segment on Clay.) From my experience and what they told me, I do think they were doing what they could with the resources they had. At one point, they suggested offering a M&G, and I said I thought they already were, plus there were OFC and VIP M&Gs, so there was going to be a limit on what Clay could do in that regard, timewise. No idea what became of that suggestion.

You have to understand that PBS stations rarely have marketing budgets any more. I haven't had one in years, not even for a wire release -- I have to beg, borrow and steal just to get a flyer designed and printed. If you see a print ad, a billboard, radio or TV spots advertising a local PBS show (except on the station's own air), it's almost certainly because they either did a barter or received a restricted grant. And trust me, the very LAST thing stations want to spend money on is promotion. It is the lowest priority...until, of course, they wonder why their ratings are low or nobody is in the seats.

Just wanted to stand up for these folks -- I know very well what they were facing, and I hope they weren't too disappointed with the end result. Sounds like it was a great show, so they must have been happy with that, at least.

Thanks Marilyn and Tiffany for all the information about the first concert;  pictures, too.

I am going to the Houston Concert on Valentine's Day.  JoAnn, her mom, Jennie, Frankie, and my husband, Skip, are going, too.  The four of us (not Skip) have a M&G with Clay from the Houston PBS station.  Is he not signing anything for the PBS folks??  From one of the posts, I got that impression.

We will also go to the concert in Grand Prairie on March 8.  Again, PBS tickets and M&G passes!!

Thats GREAT!! One person said that his assistant took the things back out of the room for them to sign, so I am not sure. Perhaps if there are less people there would be more time. I will try to see if others post from M&G's

But you DO get an up close and personal PICTURE with him!!

Even though I am late in doing this I was originally going to write a recap of the three Florida concerts I attended but I am only going to write about my experience in Miami for it was there that the stars were perfectly aligned and 777 was showing in the little glass windows.

Clay sat on the edge of the stage, his left hand on his thigh, legs swinging slightly, right hand holding the microphone and all the while singing in that perfect voice!

He sat directly in front of us, Floridaiken, jasr9203 and me, as we were seated in the first row of the PIT. I now know that he sang "What Kind Of Fool Am I?" and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" while sitting there looking gorgeous but you wouldn’t be able to prove it by me. I was so focused on his physical being that I couldn’t hear his words. Really, I couldn’t. (I see his lips are moving. He must be singing!)

The first thing I noticed was his porcelain skin that seemed almost translucent under the spotlight, portions of which were dressed in light cinnamon stubble that brought all of my hormones rushing to the surface. (Calm yourself, Kay, calm yourself. Remember to breathe!)

Then of course there were those long, lush lashes sweeping over the blue/green of his eyes. I swear I have never seen a man with lashes so perfect! He looked directly at me for a brief moment and my heart literally stopped (it did start up again several minutes later in case you are wondering). When he looks at you it is as though he is looking deep into your soul. “Eye f - - k” is the only way I know to describe what he does to you. (Don’t faint right here, Kay, not here in front of him!)

As my eyes moved over his face, I found myself fascinated by his nose which is wonderfully shaped and placed precisely where it’s supposed to be. I love his nose!

However, it was his mouth that completely entranced me. I couldn’t stop staring at his pink lips of perfection that framed snow white teeth glistening in the lights, nor at his tongue which was moving like a rose-colored snake dancing to the music of the night. And stare I did. (Quit staring, Kay. You look pathetic!) I just wanted to crawl into that beautiful beckoning mouth and set up residency.

For the eight minutes or so of bliss that he sat there I was so tempted to reach across the three feet that separated us just to touch his knee, just to feel his body heat on my finger tips, but I forced myself to sit there motionless. (You can’t just jump up and grab him! Sit still and behave yourself!)

I love him!

PS Sorry I can’t describe his clothes. I think he may have been naked
