11-18-04 :: ILLNESS FORCES CLAY AIKEN TO POSTPONE FIRST THREE DATES OF CHRISTMAS TOUR; RESCHEDULING TO BE ANNOUNCED
Under doctor's orders, Clay Aiken has been forced to postpone the first three dates of "The Joyful Noise Tour," originally scheduled to kick off this Sunday, Nov. 21 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
Aiken has vocal cord damage resulting from ongoing ear and sinus infections and is being treated by his doctor. Aiken's condition was aggravated during a trip to New York City to promote his book, "Learning To Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life". The affected dates include performances scheduled in Pasadena, CA on Sunday, Nov.21, Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Nov. 22 and El Cajon, CA. on Tuesday, Nov. 23.
The tour will now officially begin in Costa Mesa, CA. on Friday, Nov. 26. Aiken will perform at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
Aiken's management is in the process of working to reschedule the dates for Pasadena, Phoenix, and El Cajon. The new dates will be announced by next week. Existing ticket holders will be able to use their tickets for the forthcoming rescheduled dates, or refunds will be available.
Aiken was also scheduled to perform at a gala benefit dinner for his Bubel/Aiken Foundation on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Aiken will still appear at the dinner, but will be unable to perform songs from his current and new RCA album, "Merry Christmas With Love." The album was released on Tuesday, Nov. 16, and the benefit dinner was to feature the first live performance from the CD.
"The Joyful Noise Tour" will feature a conductor and a 30-piece orchestra. In some cities, Aiken will be supported by the local Philharmonic or symphony. His two dates at Atlanta Symphony Hall on Dec. 17 and 18 will include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Local choirs will also participate in some cities.
"The Joyful Noise Tour" official sponsor is Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Thanks, Christie, for bringing over that very important news.  I can't begin to comprehend the disappointment of  the fans who were looking forward to those 3 concerts.

However, I am so grateful and relieved to know that Clay is finally listening to his doctors in order to preserve the precious vocal instrument with which he has been blessed.  Now more than ever, we need to include Clay in our prayers and/or send good thoughts his way.

PLEASE GET WELL SOON, CLAY!  AND TAKE SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF TO TAP YOUR INNER RESERVOIR OF STRENGTH!!!

Actually the press release states that the first three shows have been postponed, not cancelled.  They should be rescheduled for a later date.

I'm so sorry for those of you who had tix for those shows!  I know you are disappointed, but will agree that Clay's health is paramount.

GET WELL CLAY!  We'll be here waiting.

True enough.  Guess I made the topic subject a bit too dramatic - but then again I was a drama major!

I just hope they can find dates to reschedule these concerts.  I suppose if you use the 12 days of Christmas he has until January 6th until Christmas is officially over!

Clay - just keep that beautiful mouth of yours shut and REST!!!

I understand that Clay is sick, and I hope he will take the time to take care of himself.  Sometimes, it seems that Clay feels like his fame may be fleeting, therefore, he must have tour after tour and fill his schedule as much as possible.

From what I've read, I think he actually likes touring and having the set schedule touring demands.

I feel for those who have already bought plane tickets and  planned for time off from work to attend the postponed concerts.  Hopefully, they can arrange without too much extra expense to attend the concerts on the new dates!

Not once in Clay's book does he talk about being sick with his allergies, having those allergic attacks that require shots and painful adjustments, or his sinus and food problems.

So much physical pain in his life, a lot of it caused by the beatings and torture of others, but never once does he complain or describe the bruises and painful horrors. In his book is a picture of Nick applying medicine to his eye during the concerts for a sty. "Squirting burning fluid into my eyeball", Clay says, and that is it.

This is a timely reminder for us that much of the time, Clay may be physically suffering when we don't even know it. Six foot one and 145 pounds is not a strong body.

My heart goes out to everyone who holds tickets for the first 3 concerts.  We all know that a lot more goes into it than getting the tickets.  For many it means travel arrangements and etc.  Something I'm sure Clay took into consideration and worried about.  I hope everyone is able to work around the rescheduling.

As for Clay - the man is so giving and generous of his time.  He's been going Mach 3 with his hair on fire almost non-stop since AI2.  He knows we can't get enough of him, so he keeps on bringing it.  Right up to the point that a doctor had to tell him to take a break.  That's why he has so many loyal fans, because he is loyal right back!

Clay, you're in my prayers!  I pray there's no permanent damage to your vocal cords because your music is such a gift to the world.  The truth is that we, your fans, will love you no matter what!  Get well, we can wait.
Love,
LadyC

I was one of those coming from out of town to see Clay, I was so looking forward to this, but of course, Clay's health is much more important then my desire to see Clay.  I'm soooo sad    . I hope he gets well soon. Hopefully I can get time off if he is able to reschedule.  Until then, I  will have to be content listening to that beautiful voice on my MCWL cd .

                            Get Well Soon Clay

I am saying prayers for him.  I know how terrible a sinus/ear infection combo can be and I know how dissappointed he must be that he had to postpone a few dates.  I'm sure that he's working very hard to get better (he is ever the workaholic).

I just heard the news about the postponements!  I am so disappointed!  I have tickets for El Cajon--third row!--and my sister was coming down from Fresno--a six hour drive--to join me!

My greatest fear is that I'll just get a refund, not a rescheduled concert.

I think I'm going to CRY!

I love you, Clay!  Please get well!  Your health is part of my happiness!

Clay...have some tea with honey and take care of that glorious throat of yours and try to take it easy for a couple of days...

We will wait for you.  We love you and your music dearly.  We will have years and years and years to enjoy each other.  There is no sense of urgency...if you take a few days off, we will still be here...never doubt that.  I know some in the music industry will tell you that you have to grab the fans "while you're hot".  That saying is true for those who have a gimmick and are the current passing fad.  Believe me...you are a true star and we will buy your albums and concert tickets for years to come...it's alright to pace yourself.

Please feel free to take it just a bit easier from now on.  You are one amazing man with a huge talent, but you are human.  We would never expect you to stress yourself to the max for us.  We want you healthy and happy...

Clay love to Clay and to all on this site...Sue g.

I feel realy sorry for all of you who were going to the 1st three concerts  .  I hope you are all able to go to the rescheduled dates  .  A lot of entertainers would just cancel and not reschedule...OMC is quite a guy!

I'll be praying for his health too.

This past week I've also been very sick (so much is going around this time of year!) & I sympathize with Clay.  He must be feeling Really Horrible to reschedule his tour dates, but at least, he is Listening to his doctors and taking care of himself.

To everyone who planned on attending the first 3 concerts, my heart goes out to you & I hope you will (still) be able to see Clay perform on the new dates.  Both you & Clay will be in my prayers!!

I feel bad for everyone who were planning on going... I thought OMC was doing a lot better though. But I am glad he is finally taking care of himself and taking the amount of time he needs. I must say I was a bit surprised because I know how much he hates to disappoint his fans.
