Ring in the holiday season with Raleigh native and “American Idol” Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken at the Durham Performing Arts Center.

Aiken is bringing his Christmas special, Joyful Noise Tour, to the DPAC on November 29. Accompanied by an orchestra, Clay Aiken will perform holiday classics.

"Clay Aiken has been to DPAC many times, visiting backstage with friends that come through in concert or with our big Broadway shows. It's been a goal to have him onstage and this new Christmas show was the perfect opportunity. Aiken is one of our most requested artists and DPAC is the perfect setting to start the holidays with this special concert," said Bob Klaus, GM for DPAC.

Tickets for the show go on sale Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online, at the DPAC Ticket Center, or through Ticketmaster.

Aiken is known to sell out local venues, so if you want to purchase tickets ahead of the general public, you can join Friends of DPAC. Members get to purchase tickets to shows a day before the general public. For more information, click here.

Very excited for Barb meeting Clay. Wonder if she can ask a question? The very few meet and greets recaps I have read don't think he has been asked. Linda Loveland said on Twitter she will introduce him tonight. Also Marlene will be there, JoAnn, SandyAnn and I think Sunny too.

They say they are checking for weapons, drugs and cameras.

Linda says it is 10 years ago today that she first met this young fellow who was going to be on American Idol. Clay sang for her and her jaw dropped when she heard it. He had an unbelievable voice. She said she took the tape back to the station but she turned off the video.

"He looked a little different-skinny, dorky kid with glasses. She played the audio and the newsroom fell silent and everyone ran over and said WHO IS THAT??!!. They all LOVED him."

She announced his birthday tomorrow .

HIPPOGA AT CV-SHE WAS THE CELLCERTER

It's so gosh darn hard to post on a phone... But that is nothing compared to trying to describe how wonderful Clay was tonight! I am so glad the cellcert was good! And am so happy there is clack!

He was gorgeous- and his voice was perfection- tender, powerful, soft and loud. i even found myself closing my eyes to just listen to him! And HIS eyes just twinkled as he told funny stories between songs. I was a relative newbie to the set list. The songs flowed seamlessly together and the stories were appropriate .

This is not really a red report! It is mainly an affirmation of a wonderful concert!

On kindle.so.pardon please.

I am so glad I got to come!

Clay was wonderful. In good voice all night long!
Gentle strong delicate powerful nuanced soaring whispering ...
Holy one minute flirty the next.
Serious then funny as hell. (Sexy Face! Bwah!)

Musically he was near perfection.
Seriously. The most consistently technically beautiful performance I can recall.

We got the Kicky foot. We got Jazzy.

He is one Happy man - IMO.

And to boot we got Quiana and Clay/Quiana banter!

Merry Merry Christmas!

What an amazing night! Clay was happy, relaxed, and as vocally perfect as I have ever heard him. Tonight was about The Voice. His voice was mellow, smooth, and rich. It was butter, it was honey. It was a warm hug, it was a soft caress, it was a soaring triumph. It was love, praise, and joy. During the soft, moving moments, the crowd was absolutely silent, entranced. You could have heard a pin drop.
The concert was more than I could have asked for, yet it wasn't nearly enough. I need to have that voice in my life forever.

It was my only concert, which makes me a bit sad, but I'm grateful it was this one. I bet Clay is very pleased that he performed so well tonight, and I'm sure he's going to have a fabulous birthday.

Brightstar described tonight perfectly. I honestly have never heard a concert where his voice was so perfect. I have listened and watched many videos from this tour ,but I had no idea how very good the show was. I loved everything about it. The audience listened with sheer amazement like they were witnessing an artist reach pure perfection. There wasn't a boring moment, the pace was enjoyable, and I loved the stories. This concert rates up as one of his very best. I feel like I have been given a happy pill. What a night!

I love how he recognized his fans and told how caring we are. I know he appreciates us. It was great to see Quiana.

Last night was amazing. My mom and I went to dinner with mummfums and FearofH20. Faye, Aunt Francine and Clay's grandmother were eating there with some other folks. I had the pleasure of meeting Lucia in the lobby at the DPAC. She is a sweet lady! The concert was absolutely amazing from the first note to the last. When Clay started singing "All Is Well" I could hear my mom moaning. His voice is so spectacular! One of the funniest moments to me was when he called Quiana up onstage. She had on these ridiculously high heels and some snug black pants. I thought she looked wonderful....Clay said something to the effect of she looked like she belonged on the corner on Harrison Street. I was watching the orchestra during his bantering moments and they were really enjoying it....laughing right along with all of us. It was an awesome evening.

Clay knocked the socks off of his audience in Durham last night. He rocked, he crooned, he prayed and then sang the most glorius power notes ever to rip the roof off the building. In my ten years of fandom I have never heard him sing like this. I am so fortunate to be able to go to a few more concerts. There is absolutely no way he can top this performance unless he sings an opera, performing all the roles.

When Clay asked how many people were there to see him for the first time there was a good amount of applause despite this being his hometown area. I couldn't give any NJU reports because sitting in the third row I knew everyone around me. I did hear an usher saying that she hoped we enjoyed the concert as she thought it was very good. We hurried out as we had a 2 hour drive home.

Clay would look in the wings and laugh at some of the comments he made, leading to me to think he had friends on the stage who might not have seen him this tour. I remember in a few tours where I had up front seats, that when the lights dimmed Clay would go from smiling to all about the business, I didn't see this last night. He is one happy man. Ten years after his first appearance on the National scene, he can still wow his fans and the rest of the audience.

He mentioned that he had more men in the front row than he usually sees at his shows. Asking each one of the three men up front if they were forced to come each said no, including one whose wife said she wanted to go with her girlfriends but he insisted on going with her. One man had his young daughter with him, who ended up on stage singing the Christmas song selected from the tub, a bowl topped by a pathetic little, bent, purple tree. She was very young, beautifully dressed and tottering on heels as if she has never worn them before. Meagan proceeded to select the "Little Drummer Boy" and she and Quiana sang it together. Clay pretended to be upset at her winning the prize but gave her a little hug at the end to show he was kidding. Very cute moment.

Quiana's appearance was another nice moment as she and Clay had planned a big appearance which misfired when the cue was missed and he ended up having to pull her out of the audience. She was dressed very au currant and had a new hairdo, the sides were very short and looked like a buzz cut and the top was very tall and colored a reddish blonde. It looked really good on her. Her voice was as good as ever. I love how they have remained so close over all these 10 years. I am sure it was bittersweet moment with them not touring together for the first time.

After the show last night we ran into 3 absolutely pure Virgins! They saw some of us, of course, emerging from the rest room and asked if we were Claymaniacs.
We saw no we were just really good Clay fans!

They are from the area and had never seen Clay. Watched him on idol.
One of the ladies with the Fire Dept. The venue had messed up tickets to a different show and offered JNT free as a apology. They hesitated but decided to go. One wanted to stay home and nap! LOL!
From All is Well they were TOAST!
They expected him to sit on a stool and croon all night! Did NOT expect The Entertainer!

They were bowled over by his stage presence, humorous and sense of fun as well as his Voice!

Said they would go see him again.

I'm not good at reports but I HAVE to try to write something about last night. Maybe because he was home and it's his birthday or the air and the moon were just right (beautiful moon over the theater last evening)but he was absolutely amazing! He truly is a gift from God to all of us! His voice was topnotch and, of course, front and center for the entire show. Nothing new to us, but I was just mesmerized by his hands last night. Probably the closest seat I will ever have and my wish is for every fan to be able to experience him from the view I had last evening.

The stories fit into the program well and lead into his song choice perfectly. You can tell that they were thoughtfully chosen and planned. I did not think they "sucked the air out of the room" after the jazzy medley. Actually gave me a chance to catch my breath after that amazing ride!

The orchestra was also very good. The banter before The First Noel took a whole new meaning when seeing this performance live as the entire brass section stood when they played the marvelous ending to that song. Breathtaking.

What a wonderful surprise to see Quiana last night! She did a beautiful job on Where are you Christmas.

I love Ben Cohn.

Sorry I messed up DrummingJoe's name, but I tried. LOL! I'm never one to volunteer but Clay was right in front of me on the stage and for some reason my had just went up.

Drove home on a cloud and slept like a baby.

Hi Everyone -- Just got back from Raleigh and a fantastic show last night.  I am not a very good writer but here is what I remember.  First of all, I do not think the M & G are the same this year as they have been in year's past.  I was glad I got this one but a lot of things like "the Aiken Fog", etc. are not as noticeable with the current set up.

We had to be at the Box Office at 5:00 and wait until we were called.  There were actually 3 different M & G's going on at the same time--the one from the OFC, one from e-Bay and I think the other was from the NIP.

Right at 5:00 Clay's Floor Manager came with a list and checked to make sure we all belonged there.  Then all three groups were lead upstairs to the Main Floor of the venue, where we were seated in one of the rows at the back of the auditorium.  The lights on the stage were very dim so weren't able to see anything but the Orchestra and Clay's back.  They were trying to get the timing of the songs in the medleys down correctly.  All I could see of Clay was like a shadow but when he opened his mouth and started singing, his voice absolutely filled up that empty auditorium.  His voice was as clear and strong as I think I have ever heard it.  He sang a few more phrases, then walked down in the auditorium and looked at the setup on the stage and went back up on the stage.  A very short while later he came back off the stage but that time he walked up the aisle where we were setting.

He had on a navy blue Yale hoodie and yellow pajama pants.  His hair was just like it was in the show.  He seemed very relaxed and happy.

He stood in the row facing us and walked down the row shaking everyone's hand and asking our names and where we were from.  Then he asked if we had items to be signed to get them ready.  Things went pretty well until one of the women decided she was going to monopolize the conversation and wouldn't let anyone else get a word in.  I think Clay was not real pleased but, being the gentleman he is, he tried to cut her off but she did not take the hint.

As soon as he finished signing items, he said it was time for pictures--the OFC was in a group picture, the other two had individual pictures.  I was not standing real close to Clay because we were staggered to be able to get in two rows.  He put his arm around my shoulder so, as any good Clay fan would do, I put my arm around his waist  ;D.   Here is where the fog came in, because even right now I cannot tell you whether I was looking at the camera or not.

After the pictures he said "thank you" and started walking toward to stage.  As he was walking I wished him a Happy Birthday and he looked over his shoulder and said thanks.  There were no questions asked at all.

I know that most of you have probably read the reports of last night's show and I can assure you they are all correct.  His voice was great.  The thing that I remember the most was on several of the slow, tender songs the audience was absolutely dead quiet.  If Clay had not been singing you could have heard a pin drop.  I think the fans came away feeling they had just seen Clay at his best and the new people have a whole new respect for him.  I think he got some new fans last night.

I am so glad I was there.

It was the most wonderful experience I have had the privilege to witness. Wow!

We ate at Tyler's and Faye and all the family members came in and were seated close to us. I went to the restroom and Faye was coming out but Clays GM and aunt were still there. I told his GM "I love your grandson"and she said how did you know Clay was my GS?I explained I had seen her at the RBC Center when Clay sang Star of Bethelem.  I told her I would love to hear him sing it again, and she said, he won't., he hates Blue Grass. She went on to say she keeps telling him he needs to record a Gospel Album, and he tells her its never gonna happen.

TERTER4AIKEN AT CV

Anyway, I was hanging around at one of the tables having an adult beverage and a couple came up and asked to join me. We started chatting about Clay and everything he'd done since Idol. Turns out it was a mother and son and the concert was a gift to her for Christmas. They had never seen Clay before! Oh boy did I give them an earful about what a great time they were going to have etc. She said "Wait, I thought you said you hadn't seen this show?"  I told her I had lost count of the number of shows I had been to and she'd just have to trust me. The son mentioned TCA and said Clay got so robbed. He didn't seem to be that into the concert at all. I bumped into them afterwards and needless to say Clay has two more fans for life! They were overjoyed about the concert and Clay's banter.

I can't really say anything about the concert that has already has been said, but I loved every second. This year has been quite a challenge for my family. Brain surgery for my dad for Parkinson's, a second surgery for the electrodes, complications and having both my parents sad and depressed because of lofty expectations. And the loss of my Aunt in August so suddenly has really hit all of us hard. Clay's show really uplifted my spirit and restored my soul. It reminded me to count my blessings and stick close to family. Spend as much time with loved ones as you can. You never know what tomorrow may bring.

I also loved the stories! I really love them all, but Faye's was my favorite.

I'm so glad I decided to go at the last minute. I've been VERY fortunate to have been to at least one show of every tour Clay has ever done. Thanks irishbookgal! You're pics were the final pro on my list of pros and cons to go. (not that there were really any cons)  Love you!

CLAYSSTO AT CV

My DPAC recap:

After fighting the traffic from Raleigh over to Durham, eating a great supper at Tobacco Road, we made out way into the theater -- and found our seats. I couldn't believe our location -- can't remember ever having seats like these before. Row A, center orchestra, center of the row. Clay's mic was maybe about 10 ft. in front of me!

Lynda L. gave him a really sweet intro about interviewing him & hearing him sing way back in 2003 & then having her producer listen just to Clay's voice. Even then, he was so special.

Clay came out to his mic, went back, stood there waiting and looking at the ceiling and curtain, and left again -- meanwhile we were all singing Happy Birthday to him and he wasn't even on the stage! oops. ;-) He came back out bringing a tape recorder, inserted a cassette, and proceeded with his schtick. So funny and cute.

Then he unleashed All Is Well from low voice to that last powerful note -- the best I've heard him sing, I think. He was spot on, with all those far reaching notes, and those soft nuances I love. He truly seemed to have a great time -- teasing, laughing, kidding, introducing Quiana and teasing her too. He's just the best in my book when he's "on" with his audiences --snarking on them -- and generally poking fun.

The acoustics in the theater were great -- I'm sure the roof lifted a bit a time or two. When he sang the last part of the First Noel and the brass section all stood up while accompanying him -- wow! I loved the orchestra -- very professional and noticed the violin ladies seem to really enjoy Clay -- smiling and laughing.

I thought the stories went well as lead-ins into the songs he chose to sing. The 1st one didn't seem long to me -- and although it was sad, it's about real life and it did end with hope. Sitting in the dark & watching Ben play his piano in the soft light sort of accented everything to me. Second story was shorter and I thought it, too, went well with the following songs --as did Faye's story which I really liked since it brought back memories of stories from my Mother -- especially the part about placing Angel Hair around the Christmas lights.

Loved his "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" as always -- he seems to really get a kick out of singing it, too. Encore brought him back out but way over to the right from where we were sitting -- maybe on the steps -- then when he moved out into the aisle, the spotlight went off and he finished the song in the dark. I don't think that was exactly planned. He sounded so good on All Year Long. And the show was over. *sigh*

As we were leaving, I started talking with a couple that were sitting next to me. They told me they used to see Clay(ton) at the Johnson Community Center and always knew then that he would one day be going places with his voice. They go to see him every chance they get. They live in Durham and hope he soon returns for another show -- they will be there they said.

Clay was amazing, so handsome, at ease, happy, and just wonderful. I only wish I could bottle the whole evening with Clay and my good friends as we sat and enjoyed every minute of the concert. Thank goodness for the beautiful clack we have to enjoy.

Only one Christmas concert for me this year -- but the DPAC was just beyond anything that I thought it would be. I'm lost for words to describe Clay and his voice that night……

NCWANNABE FRO CV

Okay, not really a recap I guess, but just some personal recollections from the Durham performance:

First, an overview. It was perfection. Pure and utter flawlessness from beginning to end. His control of his voice was remarkable and he held me spellbound throughout the entire show. Witty and engaging and snarky with a devilish twinkle in his eyes at one moment, sensual and commanding and alluring with a totally different look in his eyes the next. He is ever fascinating, transitioning from one persona to the next in a mere moment in time. And all those facets converge to create the phenomenal enigma that is Clay Aiken.

When he sang the first note, that lower range "All" in All is Well, I heard the young woman sitting next to me (who I did not know) literally gasp. I could tell it was an involuntary, guttural reaction to the power and beauty of that very first note. As the song progressed, it simply filled the venue and enveloped us in its warm caress. I believe it is the best version of the song I've ever heard him sing live. Exquisite.

Another memory I have is during the Away in a Manger medley. We all know that Clay can belt out a tune and I think it's safe to assume the general public knows that about Clay. But his command of the soft, tender notes during these songs was sheer mastery. So poignant and emotional one could literally and palpably feel the song. And there was a moment when I realized that the theatre was entirely silent, hanging on his every note and nuance. Oftentimes one hears the murmurs or rustlings or coughs of audience members through the quiet times of a song. But for these few precious moments it was literally like the entire audience wasn't there and it was just Clay singing for the baby Jesus in reverence and awe. I was deeply moved.

The young girl he brought up on stage for the lyrics challenge was sitting slightly in front of me. Throughout the evening it was evident she was thrilled to be there and she was so excited. She was literally bouncing in her chair at times and was giving Clay standing ovations on each song. And it was clear that it wasn't contrived or to get attention (or so it seemed to me), she appeared to be genuinely enthralled. So when he chose her to go on stage to sing, I was hoping it was because he had seen her being so excited and supportive. She was exuding joy.

The exchange between Clay and Quiana was priceless. The closeness between the two is so apparent and it gives me a wonderfully warm feeling to know that they have a friendship and a bond that is so strong. She sounded wonderful and the audience loved her. She was her usually sassy self - and I think having her in his life is a true gift for Clay. (and vice-versa, of course!)

I sometimes think his hands are just as mesmerizing as his face. I've never seen more expressive hands. His fingers caress, and meet and intertwine, his fists clench with the power of the words he is singing, then float apart on the waves of the notes. They reach to the heavens as he closes his eyes and looks skyward, only to then slowly relax, close-fisted upon his chest as the notes soften again. He sings with every part of his body - with every fiber of his being.

If his heartfelt introduction to Don't Save it All is the beginning of his sincere thank you to his fans for our love and support, then his encore song of All Year Long is a beatiful ending to his tribute. He sings it to us - all of us. He sings it softly, almost compelling us to lean forward and truly listen to the words. It is a loving Christmas wish from him to us. And then he is gone, leaving us wistfully behind and wanting more, but basking in the glow of his love and appreciation for us. Thank You, Clay.

He was, he is and he will forever be a man who fills my soul.
