QUOTE (Thankful4Clay @ Dec 16 2012, 06:24 PM)
Back from my Milwaukee M&G. It was really interesting.
We were told to sit in the back row and be quiet. Ben was leading the orchestra in "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day". After that, Clay come out in his UCONN hoodie, gray sweat pants and sneakers. He was wearing GLASSES.
He sang part of Emmanuel and had them adjusting the monitors and the sound level of the orchestra. Then they did All Year Long. It was interesting to see him singing it while pacing the stage. This venue is MUCH nicer than last nights.
We saw him exit the stage and then he came in the theater doors. Walked right up to us and said hello. Very charming. Shook our hands and asked us our names. Then he came back around and asked where we were from and signed our items.
I had a group picture from the Gala in 2004. I asked him if those were the same glasses and he said no. Next he got to Nickikiwi. When he heard she was from New Zealand he asked her a bunch of questions. I just stared at his beautiful face.
The person sitting next to me was from the Detroit M&G, so he gave her an individual picture. When it was my turn, I put my arm around him and he puts his around me. I don't think I leaned in. Lauren took at least two pictures. I told Clay that his teeth are so white they make mine look horrible. He said something, but I was in a fog.
Next he went to take the picture with the OFC group. He sat in the middle of the half round table. Those women next to him were lucky. The lady from Detroit was in the background so we told her to move. Then he joked about us not photo bombing the picture. He was in a good mood.
Then he was gone.

mostly about the difference in the sound quality - last night it was hell (he imitated the tug boat noise), but earlier today here he sounded so good he moved himself! Then he was so impressed with himself he got distracted and messed up the lyrics. He claimed it was to prove he wasn't lip-synching - it's the real deal.

TONI7 BABE@CV
Just got home...2 hour drive and I have to get up at 6 am for work, so no time to work on video.
Great concert. The venue is nice and small and Clay remarked how different it sounded tonight compared to last night. He said he was even impressed with himself hee!! He ragged on the theater from St Charles a bit telling the crowd they had disco balls/lights on during Away in the Manager!
Loads of men there tonight, especially in the balcony. One whole row of just men
Clay joked alot about it being a casino and was very funny...not as funny as last night but still he had every one laughing like crazy!
He sounded and looked gorgeous..F*KING GORGEOUS!!
Nice lighting tonight they were pretty, small stage and he was on the opposite side of the stage where I was sitting alot tonight since stage was small and I didn't have a killer seat like last night. cablegirl, Mickey749 (sp?) and lindylo and I all were in a booth and could see great just not as close so who knows how my video came out. Probably not as good as my St Charles, I love my St Charles videos!
Orchestra was great! Accoustics great!
I am just rambling, I am tired
It was so great seeing so many CV'ers tonight and last night
-
DEEMER@CV
Clay had some great moments & gestures in banter tonight, for those who like to clip out those little gifs or just see these moments, I went through my banter to see some of those special parts I recalled from the concert, here are the times for my clack vids, to give you an idea were they come in the banters:
pre "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" banter:
0:59 Yes!
1:39 Clicks his head, he got it right tonight
4:04 You can just let loose!
Pre "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" banter :
1:48 2-finger point to eyes and to binocular user (I see you)
2:12 whispers I'm doing a bit, just play along...
Pre "The First Noel" banter:
1:15 Tugboat impression
1:39 Damn I sound good
2:42 Tells which songs he has cheat sheets for
6:36 I'm screwing up left and right
5:10 Because I do this every night (he should have said yes to stairs)
Pre "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" banter:
2:11 Shhhhhhhh
3:30 I KNOW what I'm doing
4:38 WOW look at her (mimics stereotypical loud audience member)
5:31 finger to lips (be quiet - cap below)
5:50 Oh snap (hand snap/flick) joke he is self-congratulating himself for starts about 5:35
-
HI - I am still in the Clay Fog! Sunday night - POTAWATAMI ! So thankful that I got to see him at least this one time on this tour. Where do I begin . . .
Great venue, acoustics, orchestra, lighting . . . . GREAT CLAY! He started the show by coming out and absolutely nailing every single beautiful note of All Is Well! YOWZA! I was completely swept away once again!!
Every song was so good. First snarky line was something like "Nothing says Christmas and Baby Jesus like a casino"! :D He asked if anyone was drinking. Lots of "first-timers" were in the audience and lots of men. Clay said that he has been surprised to see many new faces during this tour and he said that he has been told that they enjoyed him so much on Celebrity Apprentice . . . that they wanted to come to his concert! I think it was a point well taken.
He did an awesome job on the religious hymns of the season. He had the brass section really blast out for the last verse of The First Noel and it was very memorable.
And, of course, Don't Save it All For Christmas Day . . . . long and loud glory notes and lots of enthusiasm.
The man was born to sing on a stage . . . . and he proved it once again! Lexie and Nancy had not seen Clay perform since Spamalot and they really enjoyed the show.
I can hardly wait until "next time"!!!
-
Great recap Barb. Saw a few things on clack but not the opening banner yet. So happy you got to see him. ;D Agreed that he is born to be on stage. He still has it. If he tours Christmas again maybe we could get tickets in a few months. Lol Never know.
-
Thanks, TIFFANY!
Hope he does many more Christmas tours . . .. AND other concerts, too!!
Wondering about the weather conditions in Colorado! :-\
-
Me too Barb. Just checked the weather. Expecting 4 to 6 inches of snow over night.

PINK ARMCHAIR AT CH
Milwaukee.
My group had seen Clay and Ruben at this venue back in 2010 -- despite having to run the gauntlet through the very smoky (*cough*) casino to get there (not to mention that every time we come to Milwaukee we end up driving around in circles! -- thank goodness for Google Maps), it's a great place. We had dinner at the same sports bar, at the same table, where we ate in 2010. My cheeseburger was just as good, too.
The venue: I think Clay is ideally suited to a nightclub vibe like this...intimate setting, tables and booths, every seat a good one. I loved seeing him up close like this. And as I sat there, I thought to myself that he could easily have done a whole show of just standup and gone over great with the NJU in that place. The crowd as a whole was much more subdued than the night before, but Clay as always handled it well. I suspect he was hoping for a few drunks to embarrass, but outside of the usual binoculars sighting, his customary references to "stalkers," and having to shut down a lady who kept trying to call his attention to a companion from Japan (Clay's rejoinder to her, "Take out your ticket. Whose name is on it?" was priceless), everything was pretty sedate. The older gentleman, "JimfromMilwaukee," was very cute...thanked Clay for coming and got the audience to applaud, which led Clay to give him a prize even after he got the song lyrics wrong. He got the lottery ticket; hope he wins.
The technical aspects were light years ahead of the poor Arcada the night before. Gorgeous and intricate lighting, beautiful backdrop (it looked, to my eyes, like puckered chiffon) which created some great effects, and later in the show there were glittering stars. Yes, it was lovely and the sound, as Clay mentioned, was terrific. The orchestra was notable for its enterprising trombone player, who provided a few very funny impromptu rimshots in response to Clay's jokes.
Yes, he did make a few comments about the "dungeon" of Arcada and its "disco lights"...I agree with zaraone that he probably isn't interested in returning there and didn't give a damn about burning bridges. And I did want to address this:
Quote:
if I weren't such a fan - I would have thought he was a diva.
I know what you mean, but as Clay always says...his name is on the ticket. The quality of the show ultimately reflects on him, and he had to play with the cards he was dealt. Clay has always been blunt and outspoken, and IMO he took lemons and made lemonade. His job was to entertain us, and he delivered, in spades.
And despite having no working monitors, somehow he still managed to sound amazing. He deserves a lot of credit for that -- it's not easy. That theatre, unfortunately, was just not equal to the technical demands of his show, which were pretty basic to begin with. The rundown appearance of the theatre would not have mattered if the mikes and speakers and monitors and lighting had been up to par.
And I'm speaking from painful experience here: a REAL diva would have brought the show to a screeching halt and walked off in a huff, never to return
