yes everyone must see it. Clay will be wearing a tux!! I think I will also watch it again on the 3rd and on the 6th - even though I haven't seen it yet. There are some other really good entertainers that are going to be on as well.

Hi everyone - does anyone know if we will be able to get a download of the Nick at Night special ( at least OBC singing Peace On Earth/ Drummer Boy with Bing? )Living in Canada there is no way we can get Nickleodeon - but all of us Claynadians REALLY want to see Clay's performance!
I'd do just about anything to get a copy of this - I love that song(s) and I bet Clay will knock our socks off with his rendition !!!!
Please let us know about the special - ALL the CLAYlicious details!!!!
Thanks

:Hi Pamela:

I just posted under the News and Appearances section - I'll repeat here so you can delete that other post! Sorry!  I'll figure out where to post at some point!

For those that are different time zones, Clay comes on at the 32 ish minute mark - right after a commercial without warning so get your recording finger hovering above that record button.

It was a great preformance although I found the ghostly Bing a little weird - i would think they can do better these days but maybe that was the look/vibe they were going for.

Close up shots (a little stubble, perhaps!) and Clay in a tux - well that is all good!

Remember the version of David Bowie with Bing doing this same song?  I can't imagine they would have just let anyone sing with Bing - Way to go Clay - does anyone know if this was Clay's request or idea?

Enjoy!

Clay did a fabulous job as usual. He REALLY does need to record a Christmas album next year.  He is a pretty good actor too !!!!  He sounded excellent (I too need the MP3 - thanks in advance !!!!). I loved him in a tux - notice that he always looks so classy.  And his hair looked great too....no so spiky (maybe they read the thread about his hair falling out - haha).  I cant wait to watch it again !

yeah I eagerly awaited his entrance through that door during the special. When he came in, scarf up around face, it was soo cute. When he was at the tv watching Bing, he looked so comfortable - almost like he was thinking of home. Then as he sang, you could see the emotion is his eyes. Goodness, thank you for all the close up shots. Nice time to look into those green eyes. And of course he looked very cute in the coat and tux. My mom commented on the collar of his coat, because I just bought a gray wool coat w/ a black collar - lol. Anyway, yeah I am so glad they are repeating it 2 more times. I will watch the others - and tape it the next time it comes on. Very cute. I really liked Vince and Amy too - they are other preferred performers of mine.

He sang like an angel........ I can't believe I started crying and cried through his performance.  I ran the tape back and cried again.   His portion of the song is so beautiful.

Bing looked dead with and with angel standing beside him.  Clays performance on this song outshone his duet partner.    FANTASTIC :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

I was so exciting waiting for Clay to sing and forgot to tape it!!!    Thanks Nick at Night for giving us such a great Christmas Special with such  a fabulous Christmas Clay and Bing duet!!  Clay looks so handsome in tux and the close-ups give us such a  great view of his angel face.   He is our brother, son and love.  I hope next year he will come out with a Christmas album with  all these lovely songs we’ve heard so far and more!!!

Here's the rundown for all our Canadian friends...

The setting is the Nick at Nite Lodge.  There is a terrible storm so all these different people are stuck in the snow and come to the lodge to wait out the storm.  It's very cheesy and campy and they acknowledge that which makes it kind of cute and funny.

Various people come in and sing, such as Vince Gill and Amy Grant, Natalie Cole, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald.  Oh, and Sarah Maclachlan who was wonderful as well.

There are a strange group of people on this show.  From Joyce Dewitt to Ted Danson to Chaka Khan to the tumbling singers to Jackee Harry.  The funny guy from Third Rock From the Sun and Raven Simone and Martin Mull join with Blair Underwood from LA Law and rapper kid Lil Romeo.
Wow.

Finally  :  Clay comes to the door.  He has a long wool overcoat on and a scarf wrapped up over his face so you can't see who he is.  When he takes off the scarf, we see it's Clay and the audience goes eeeeeeee!!!!!

He says he has just come from a concert, got stuck in the snow and his cell phone wouldn't work; could he wait out the storm at the lodge?  Oh, and could they turn on the TV so he won't miss the Christmas special with Bing Crosby because Bing always reminds him of Christmas at home.
(awwwwwwww!)

They turn on the TV and Bing starts singing 'Little Drummer Boy.'  Clay is shown standing by the piano and Bing sort of materializes there beside him.  He looks kind of glowy and shimmering.  And a little weird, honestly.

Bing is singing and Clay joins in singing 'Peace on Earth' which melds well with Bing singing 'Little Drummer Boy.'  It's very similar to the duet with David Bowie and Bing if you have ever seen that.  Clay is singing in low voice which is amazingly beautiful and haunting.  I love it when he sings in lower register, it's just like wrapping up in a warm and fuzzy blanket when it's cold outside.  His treatment of the song is pure, it's simple and it will fill your heart.

The camera mostly focuses on Clay (who looks faboo in his tux) and occasionally Clay looks over at Bing who is still shimmery.  It's a very loving treatment of the songs, and it's a huge honor for Clay to be able to sing with Bing; surely his family had to give permission for this take place.

At the end of the song, Clay and Bing nod to each other in appreciation and that's all we see of Clay.

Now my husband is walking around the house singing....'Peace on Earth...'  He's a Claymaniac too, even though he won't admit it.
Heh heh heh.

That was fantastic.  Clay was amazing as usual.  I loved that song when David Bowie did it with Bing Crosby.  I love it even more now that Clay has done it.  It was just beautiful.  And all the close-ups made my heart melt.  Definately a Christmas album in the future.  One more comment, Clay in a tux-YUMMY!!!!  I've already watched it 4 times and soon going back for an encore.

Clayfan18 - You will have several chances to tape it as it is going to be replayed quite a few times.  I want a Christmas CD NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they came out with one in January, I would buy it and pay a premium price.   I was so hung up on "Don't Save your Love----" and then came "The First Noel" and "White Christmas" then "Silver Bells".

This has been an exciting week and I am sure I will enjoy all his performances again and again.   These are the types of songs that hooked me, where I could really hear his beautiful voice.   I want MORE.

As I watched the Nick at Nite Christmas show tonight I kept thinking -
CLAY IS PLAYING WITH THE BIG BOYS NOW! Sure the show was on the Nickelodeon Channel and sponsored by Nick at Nite, but there were big time, established, well known entertainers on it - Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Ted Danson, Natalie Cole, Kenny Loggins, Chakachan (sp?), Martin Mull and others. No amatuerish American Idol Christmas, no teenage TRL. IS THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY STARTING TO BELIEVE? When Clay walked in the door with that tux on I lost it! WHAT A BABE! I think Mull was a little taken back with surprise when Clay got such a reaction from the crowd.

The duet with Bing Crosby was quite a coup for Clay too. Bing is considered an icon in the industry. OBC stole the show there too. Even Bing can't outshine him (although the hologram of Bing was spooky). Clay showed his star quality. He's just plain magical in everything he does and everything he wears.

They should have let Clay sing by himself. He look so fresh and pure and glowing and if they could have made the image of Bing lifelike, it would have been great (like Gene Kelly dancing with Paula Abdul). But alas,
as I said Bing was not looking to hot.

On the bright side. Clay was awesome!!! He was simply the best
of the show. His voice is so wonderful and He makes you feel happy
when you hear him.

LiftClayUp I completely agree with you, his voice sounded so pure and heartfelt that I too got all emotional.  It was like listening to an angel. That kind of style of singing is what I really enjoy listening to him sing. Also I think he handled himself very well in the acting part, he is a natural. He was better and seemed more at ease than some of the other entertainers that have been around for awhile. Looking forward to one day being able to buy his Christmas cd.  Then one day I can say Clay's songs always meant Christmas to me.

Once again, Clay was fantastic.  He looked great and sounded terrific.  I think the idea of him singing with Bing was inspired, even though the image of Bing was a little creepy.  ( I wish they had done it in black and white, might have been more believeable, like Clay went back in time.  Although Clay was so cute in living color.)  This is the same duet that David Bowie ( long time Bowie fan here) did with Bing back in the 70's.
Very cool!
That special though was really wierd.  That was the strangest group of performers. I have ever seen put together.   And some of the other numbers like the dancing Mrs. Claus' who stripped and started doing hip-hop...really weird.  Clay was the shining star of that show.  I'm glad I didn't tape the whole thing, though.

I know I posted here before but I need to again.  Clay was just magnificent as always.  This was truly one of my favorite performances. It was just heavenly.  I know this is for happy things but right now I'm a little bummed and need someone to talk to.  I asked my husband, who is not a Clay fan or anyone's for that matter, if he would just watch Clay sing with Bing.  He agreed.  I was really happy thinking maybe he'd like listening to Clay.  Wrong.  I put the tape in and the whole time it was on, he never looked up from the newspaper he was reading.  When the song was over he never said a word.  I asked him how he liked it and he said it was OK.  Now I'm upset.  Not because he doesn't like Clay but because he wouldn't even act interested for two minutes to make me happy. That's what really bothers me.  So here I am at the computer talking to all of you.  OK, I've vented-I'm better.  On a final note, I thank God for Clay, my second TV, my second VCR and my computer.  But most of all, I thank God for all of you Claymaniacs who let me babble and share.  This is home.  You all are my salvation.

And on and on and on!  It was a wonderful show, and Clay really did a fabulous job - acting, singing, being!!!  Those close-ups were great - and are we showing a little stubble??!  Yikes!  He looked like an angel!

That song is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs.  I am a David Bowie fan and loved his version of this song.  I was kind of nervous about Clay singing it, but he was fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  He is truly a natural when it comes to singing.  He knows exactly what is needed as far as emotion, etc. for a song.  He made my heart melt.

ClayLady -- I've come to the conclusion...
« Reply #24 on: November 29, 2003, 10:55:36 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ClayLady -- I've been studying people's reactions to MY obsession over Clay, and I've come to the following conclusion...

I'm totally surrounded by musicians and music lovers. I was in a band for 14 years and my husband has been a professional, successful (6 gold records) punk/heavy metal musician for 25 years. When the subject of Clay comes up, the confident musicians readily admit that Clay is an outstanding singer. My husband is totally supportive of my obsession (standing in line to buy his CDs while I'm at my day job, and ordering AI tickets for the St. Paul concert the first day they came out). On the other hand, my musician friends and family members that are not confident about themselves, or my relationship with them, feel TOTALLY threatened by Clay. They won't even listen to them.

And this story demonstrates the point... my very good friend (outstanding singer, no self-confidence) always says that Clay's a horrible singer... When I picked my friend up to go somewhere a few weeks ago, he got into my car, and of course MOAM Run to Me was blaring on my radio. My friend said "Now that's a great song..." He thought it was the radio. The minute I told him it was Clay, he said "Turn that crap off." One of my other insecure musician friends made the comment, "I'd be successful too if someone handed me a recording contract on a silver platter and filled the studio with an overkill of outstanding musicians, writers, producers and engineers. Anyone could have a hit record with that much power behind you..."

You see, it's all about confidence. My husband feels no threat and likes to see me happy. He knows that Clay makes me happy.

In my opionion (just that), your husband may feel threatened because of your obsession. Can he sing like Clay? Can he look as adorable as Clay? Is he as young as Clay? As successful? You may never be able to help your husband have the confidence to give Clay (or anyone else) a chance. So just make sure you're reaffirming his worth. And in the meantime, come here for your Clay support.

We're here for you.

Percy

Percy, I think you hit the nail on the head.  My husband has been having problems with my OCD as well.  He feels threatened by Clay because of everything Clay is that he is not.  However, after I sat down with him and explained to him that this obsession of mine is merely a part of my personality, he started to understand.  A long long time ago (back when I was in junior high), I thought Davy Jones (of the Monkees) was just the cutest thing in the world and plastered my walls and ceiling with posters of him and even went so far as to date someone cause they looked just like Davy Jones.  Granted, Davy Jones doesn't have what Clay has in regards to talent, personality and charisma, but I was a fan.  If I'd had a computer back then, I would have been downloading stuff of Davy Jones there too.  But I didn't run off to meet Davy Jones.  Never wrote him a letter.  Never attempted to meet him or run off to move just so I could be near him.  I have a grip on reality and I am not foolish enough to try anything so outrageous as to try and meet someone so famous in the vain hope that they'd fall in love with me at first site.  Age has also given me some wisdom and though I would probably love to plaster my walls with posters of Clay, I am not going to.  *L*  Out of respect for my husband.  But I will still download everything I see of Clay.  And I will still do my best to watch absolutely everything that does.  If I have the money for a concert and the time to go, I will make sure my husband goes with me.  If I don't, I won't try to bankrupt myself.  And after talking to my husband matter of factly about how I feel when he would speak about his insecurities regarding Clay, I said flat out.  I am a fan of Clay's and thats just the way it is.  But I will always love you and stay with you.  In the meantime, I will try to Clayvert you so you love him as much as I do.  I'd rather it be something we share, than to be something only I do.  He seems to be better now and less insecure.  So I would just talk to your husband.  If you have the kind of relationship where discussions like this are acceptable, then tell him honestly how you feel.  Reaffirm your relationship, but let him know how your feelings are hurt.  The key to a healthy happy relationship is communication.  Remember that.

I just got home and watched the tape of Clay from last night ( I watched it last night but didn't have a VCR where I was). Then of course I ran to the computer so I could download the audio. Listening to it again I had tears streaming down my face - just thinking about it gets me teary-eyed again. That voice is so pure and smooth and filled with emotion it is impossible not to feel something when listening to it.

And my mom told me this morning she ran to this site to see what everyone was saying about the performance. She's 64 and just as crazy about him as I am.

OMG!!! I thought they sang beautifully together. Their voice's complement each other. I of course think Clay is better than Bing, but Bing was good too. Bing looked like death while OMC looked like an angel. I think Clay's acting was O.K. He does need to work on it, but with time he'll get better.  :  :

I don't know if anybody else noticed it, but did you see that Bing's ears are as big as Clay's are?  *G*  I think its probably an omen.  Bing was huge, and had big ears.  Fred Astaire, big ears.  HUGE.  Clay, big ears.  hehehehe... he's gonna be an icon.  *VBS*

Misha, don't forget Frank...

Hey y'all who are fans of the Clay/Bing duet.  Apparently there is a Bing Crosby fan message board HERE.

I thought these posts were very interesting and very much an honor to Clay:

Howard Crosby posted 11/29/03 01:31 PM Central Time (US)

I very much liked Clay Aiken and his voice when my thirteen year old daughter got me to watch him last year on American Idol, and I was thrilled to see his duet with Uncle Bing last night on the Christmas special. It was fabulous. I would like to add my echo to all those who are now clamoring for a video and CD release of this magnificent effort. I'm sure it will be a huge hit....who knows, maybe even Number 39?

Also from Greg Van Beek (Bing Message Board):
Quote
Originally, they wanted to have Clay sing "White Christmas" with Bing, but then asked if Bing ever sang "Little Drummer Boy" besides the version with David Bowie. I told him about the version from the '62 X-mas special-- the ONLY other video available of Bing performing the song-- so they were thrilled. They didn't know about this '62 version, and neither did Bob Deflores. When Clay learned of this, he immediately wanted to do Drummer Boy instead of White Christmas!

And this from someone else:

Quote
Full credit must go to the producer of the show, Gary Tellalian, who initially had the idea and made this (the duet) happen, as well as Bob Deflores and Ron Hall who worked very hard on this under hurried circumstances. Their enthusiasm and belief in this project helped to bring Bing Crosby yet another Christmas classic.

For the benefit of some of Clay's fans who may not be aware, Bing presented a Christmas show or "special" every year for 43 consecutive years, starting on radio in 1934, and continuing until the last TV special with David Bowie, taped 5 weeks before his death in 1977. He only performed Little Drummer Boy twice on television. The first time was in 1962 (the clip used with Clay), which was really his first full blown TV Christmas special, and the last time with Bowie in 1977.

Since I don't work in the television industry, I'm really not the one to ask about "basic knowledge about the TV industry and how such a request to get this duet on other networks actually works--the politics, etc." as I know very little about it myself. What I do know, is that TV networks typically issue press kits and/or press releases for their shows to the news media, which is what I believe has been provided to ET, Extra, Access Hollywood, etc.

If you'd like to see this "event" covered on news programs on other networks like CBS, NBC, & ABC, I would suggest writing to the specific shows via their websites, such as the Today Show on NBC or Good Morning America on ABC or the Early Show on CBS. If you bring it to their attention, it just might generate enough interest to merit them doing a story on it.

Misha-  I watched OMC's performance several times, each time focusing on a different part of his face.  I definitely noticed the ear similiarity and glad that I wasn't the only one.

I was, once again, moved by Clay,s wonderful performance.

At 48, I am finding myself doing things I would never before have dreamed of doing....following someones career, stayng on the computer researching for hours. and becoming a classic fanatic through and through.  But one can not help themselves ehen it comes to this remarkable young man.

I see Clay becoming more and more at ease with whatever comes his way...his little acting skit was so warm and realistic, his style of dress, classic and tastelful ( so handsome you want to eat him up) and the performance fabulous! ( Love this style of singing best of all) What an honor...to sing with Bing...that certainly is BIG time.

I hope to see Clay in his own special one day soon.  This young man can do it all.  I thought he did a wonderful job on the AI holiday special...he was quite the MC with such a cute sense of humor.
To change the subject for a moment......
Does anyone know if there are plans for Clay to recored Unchained Melody?  When he preformed it on AI, I was thrilled.  I thought it to be better than the original which had always been my alltime favorite.  Also, this is his Mom's favorite song.....so I'm hoping!!!!!

Together for Clay,
Susan

I thought Clay looked as if he could have been Bing Crosby's grandson!  They really looked a lot alike! I wondered if they put Clay in a tux to emphasize that!

Bing materializing was a little on the creepy side. I have to believe that in this day and age that could have been done better!

But Clay!  His voice was absolutely angelic!  I LOVED the David Bowie/Bing Crosby version of that song.  It is the one and only Christmas song I can actually hear over and over again.  The only reason I still prefer that one to this Clay/Bing version one is that the interaction between the two singers in the Bowie/Crosby version is very special, and of course you can't have that with poor old Bing dead!  Clay was at a distinct disadvantage!  But Clay's voice was so beautiful!  I don't particularly like Christmas records, but Clay NEEDS to make one and that is one I will most definitely buy!

And Clay in a tux!!!!!  Yum yum!!!!!!!

Susan - about Unchained Melody, the problem is that Justin Guarini (?), who you might know just got dumped from RCA Records, recorded it on his debut album, unfortunately.  So I don't think that Clay is going to want to record it anytime soon.  Also, I think, except for Solitaire, which as I'm sure you know is being released with the Invisible single on Dec 16th, I think that Clay, at least for now, is staying away from AI type redos, and is singing original music, so as not to peg himself as the kind of singer as he was seen as being on AI.  However, I can see him eventually making an album with Unchained Melody and other such music sometime in the future when he's more established and when Justin Guarini's album is long forgotten.

What the heck happened to the Christmas special.  I got my VCR all set and turned on Nick at 11:00 and Roseanne was on.  I thought I was going to get to see Clay again.  I was looking forward to it.  I did make two tapes of the last time it was on but I gave one to my aunt and one to a friend, neither of them gets Nick at Nite.  So I put in my tape and got all ready to watch Clay over and over again tonight.  Then nothing.  Does anyone know why it wasn't on.  I'm really bummed out!
 :(  :(
