-
Barb-Let's hope he does another Christmas tour next year.
I am hoping he will be doing a summer tour next year!!
He did say that he was going to tour each Christmas but I hope he will also do a summer tour. It sure is easier to get vacation time in the summer.
-
Everyone was laughing- pre WAYDNYE banter.
WAYDNYE now
-
Not for me, Rebecca is out of school, but they do go away a lot.
-
He said in the interview today that he would be talking to to manager soon, about what was out there
And he said singing is what he likes to do the most but he also likes variety. Doesn't sound like he will quit any time soon. ;)
-
I hope he has a long talk with his booking agent so we don't have another mess like Detroit. I know how it feels to have a show cancelled at the last moment. It also cost Clay a lot of money because he probably has to pay some expenses and will not get any income. The whole thing stinks.
-
(eta - he must have been talking to guys in audience before this)
-
No telling what he is doing during the banter before WAYDNYE
-
He carried the banter on for a long time in Shippensburg
-
Agreed Barb. Feel so bad. :( Clay tweeted to someone today saying sorry and there was nothing he could do.
-
Tiffany I don't think he will quit anytime in the future but I sure wish he liked to record in the studio more than he does, He needs a killer single
-
Talking about changing words to songs. Think he's bragging about getting through lyrics okay tonight so far.
-
Marlene-He doesn't like being in the studio but if he did do another album think it will be Christmas or Broadway.
-
DOING THE LYRICS
-
"even just one" vs "even just once" debate
-
I don't have a clue He never ceases to amaze me with the things we least expect.
-
Whatever is going on there is LOTS of laughter
-
So true Marlene. Hope doing the book can be out next year if he is ready.
-
Probably someone else telling him he DOES mess the lyrics up
-
LOL
-
SHE PICKED "UP ON THE ROOFTOP" AND SANG IT- AUDIENCE JOINED IN.
SOUNDS LIKE SHE GOT THE MACY'S GIFT CARD
-
He's picked someone out to come up on stage!
Sounds like she's doing Up On The Housetop (not bad!
-
I do not know that song at all. That girl Sara sang that in PA right? She was really good and loved Silver Bells together.
-
Still talking- everyone cheered really loud
-
He said that was one of his least favorite Christmas songs( Gal picked in Shippensburg too)
-
THE FIRST NOEL

Marlene-Awesome Heard The 1st Noel before his radio interview today. So nice. I didn't think they would ever play him. I requested for them to play 1000 Days once and they didn't have it.

WVCLAYFAN:
Greensburg Recap!
Long time, no see! Real life has been keeping me extremely busy, but sometimes you just have to stop and go see Clay Aiken. Although I write for a living, I make no promises as to the quality of this recap because … well, because I can really only think one thing – Holy sh*t!
I’ve waited almost nine years to experience what I did last night. And it was nothing short of amazing.
Scorpionlady, ljparismama and I had tickets to Shippensburg; however, as the concert grew closer we realized our schedules weren’t conducive to a three-hour drive and an overnight stay. While we were trying to make a final decision via e-mail, I just happened to pull up The Palace Theatre website.
What did I see on the screen? Three front row tickets!
I swear. We were meant to have them because I have NEVER been that lucky when buying Clay tickets. Never. Although I wanted to wait for everyone to agree, I kinda.sorta.maybe made an executive decision and purchased the seats. I couldn’t let them get away though! After I got over the initial excitement of finally sitting in the front row, it dawned on me that I’ll finally be close enough to use my camera for pictures. Holy sh*t!
Fast forward to us being seated last night. I couldn’t stop giggling – and it was like a domino effect from me to ljparismama to s-lady. But then the lights dimmed and it became real and wonderful! He sounded amazing. He was hilarious (I even snorted a few times!). He looked divine. I may or may not have studied the fly of his pants for the second outfit at one point. I swear instead of a zipper it was snaps/buttons.
After talking to the men in the front row – and their wives who “needed to get their stories straight” – Clay made a crack about adding this song ("What Are You Doing New Year's Eve") in hopes that the men could go home and get laid. As the opening notes of the song began to play, I started giggling again. I swear I thought he was going to start singing “chestnuts roasting on an open fire…” Odd choice to dedicate to men, I thought. And it was all over.
I’m not sure where this fits into the timeline (Clay fog, ya know), but Clay did ask ljparismama to look up the lyrics to Hark The Hearld on her phone.
The woman called up on stage to sing mentioned she’d seen Clay in concert four times. I heard people around us say, “Only four?” Haha! She mentioned her daughter being the singer in the family, but she wasn’t at the concert tonight (she was performing in one of her own) … and that she had already seen Justin Bieber. After singing, she picked the pocket with a Massachusetts lottery ticket.
And then it was time to try and pronounce the band member’s last name. He walked back and forth on the stage trying to decide who to call upon.
He stopped in front of me and said, “You.” I pointed to myself and responded, “Me?” He quickly replied, “Yes, you. I’m looking at you aren’t I?” I replied, “Well, I didn’t know. You could have been looking at the woman right behind me!” So I walked up to the edge of the stage (Holy sh*t!). He asked my name, where I was from and then … I don’t know. I remember asking if the last name was Polish, but didn’t get a response. He said something about giving me a prize if I could pronounce it. I cheekily replied, “A lottery ticket?”
When he came out for the encore – and sat on the stairs right beside us – I had to turn away. And, yes, I said, “Holy sh*t!” The women in the row behind us busted out laughing. Then I remembered I had a camera. I was able to capture two of my favorite pictures. Yay! While we had our moments during the show, nothing made me happier than seeing a woman across from us overwhelmed and crying when Clay stood in front of her for the final bit of the encore. I have no doubt that made her whole month!
Side note: I went to the dentist this morning and I’m friends with one of the technicians on FB. Not knowing I was in the office, she came up to several co-workers and said (breathlessly), “Did you all see Clay Aiken was here last night??” All three of the women were so excited – and couldn’t believe they missed him. I interjected that he was actually in Greensburg and I was there. The technician started laughing and said she saw my pictures on FB and was so excited for me. I’ve often thought Clay could sell well in one of the two small theatres in Morgantown – and this morning reaffirmed that. I hope one day he might consider it.
Final note: I know this isn’t something new, but Clay really appreciates his fans. Those true emotions are always welcome in my (fangirl) world!

NCWANNABE AT CV
Observations and stories from Greensburg.
Subtitle: Clay called me a “big mouth” and a “stalker.” Should I be offended?
I love the opening shtick with the tape recorder. He was really working it, and looking worried and taking breaths like he was ready to start singing, then blowing out the breath when the music didn’t begin. What’s cool is that folks started calling out support. And then really laughing as they realized it was part of the routine. When he came out with the recorder and pulled the cassette out of his pocket, I heard someone snort with laughter as they said “OMG it’s a cassette!”
I was in the second row of the pit, and directly in front of me in the front row were two guys there with their girlfriends. I was especially curious to see how the guys would react. By all signs, they really enjoyed it. They were laughing a lot, and even clapping in the middle of songs at times. It was good to see. The man directly in front of me even let go of his girlfriend’s hand to clap a few times.
You may have seen the clack on this already, but Clay gave a big shout out to PA. He started off on his “this is a special night for me” thing, explaining that he hadn’t messed up the lyrics yet. He said a few days ago he was in … and he paused for a moment, and I thought he was trying to recall the name of the town, but he went on to say “central Pennsylvania.” Well, in the midst of him continuing on to say “central PA,” since I thought he couldn’t recall the town, I said “Shippensburg” (and I think some other people might have said it too.) Anyway, he looked over in our direction and said “I know the name of the town, people!” LOL (we’ll come back to this later)
He went on to explain that he wanted to get one of those tally boards like at a factory or something that says “X days without an accident” and use it for the number of days he went without a lyric error, but he said he went on to Boston the next day and blew it. But now, here in Greensburg, he was error free again. So he concluded, “It must be PA! “ (woo hoo for us!!!!)
The remember the lyrics contestant was sitting right beside me. I didn’t know her - she is a fan since Idol, but not someone on the boards. She told me she had seen him 4 times locally over the years. When I sat down next to her, she promptly asked if I was a Claymate? She proceeded to ask me how many times I had seen him, if I had met him, how many shows of this tour I’d been to, etc. When she asked me if I had ever been on stage with him, I told her about reading one of the stories, and that she would hear more about the stories later. She responded that she would LOVE to be on stage with him. So I told her that she would have an opportunity tonight, and that when she heard Clay start to talk about how difficult it is to remember the words to songs, and he asks if anyone sings carols, she should shout out to him that she does, and try to get his attention. Sure enough, it worked and he picked her to go up on stage. She was thrilled and sooooo excited! When she first got up on stage with him, he asked her if she was the one who had yelled out “Shippensburg” earlier, as if he were going to scold her. She said “no, it was the lady beside me.” He looked out , saw me, and said “Oh, that bigmouth, “ then said to me, “See, you almost got her in trouble.” Oops.
Have I mentioned before his kick-ass Prada shoes? The black loafers he wears are shiny and have a silver bar with PRADA sort of engraved on it in raised letters. The toes upturn a bit, and they look really expensive. When he sat on the stool to sing, he was constantly hooking and rehooking his feet on the rungs. Occasionally his foot would just slip off the rung, and he’d have to readjust. At times he hooked his foot on the inside of the rung too. Whenever his foot would slip off, I’d look to see if his face would register it. But it never did – he never skipped a beat or looked at all phased by it. And it appears that the venue must provide the stool, as it’s been a different one each time. The brown shoes are ones we’ve seen before - soft leather laceless oxfords/wingtips.
The gray suit coat that he wears for the second costume change is missing the button on the left sleeve. It’s not a traditional jacket button, but just a single button that is more decorative. I looked on his right sleeve, and that one is hanging by a thread.
As he was beginning his intro leading into "The First Noel", he asked if anyone knew what his favorite Christmas Carol was this year? As he had just told us that in Boston two nights before, out of my mouth comes “The First Noel.” Others had shouted out other songs as well. But he heard someone say "The First Noel" (I don’t think he knew it was me) but he said “someone’s been to my show before.” Then he went on to say, (and I may be getting this mixed up a bit – memory is fuzzy on this part) that “people follow me around.” And he paused, then added, looking at the lyric contestant lady, “like that stalker sitting next to you.” Oops again.
I noticed that when he rests his hands on his thigh, often times he scratches at the material. He takes his index finger and goes back and forth with it.
I met the girl who got the tattoo. She is a 19 year old from Kentucky. She said she’s been a fan since she was 9 years old when she watched him on Idol. She had him sign her back at the M&G.
We got a little bit of a cappella singing as he told us about the “one” vs. “once” background vocals in MCWL. Then, he thought that tonight during "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" the background singers said “Come and behold him, born the king of ‘DAVID.’” But he had to half sing/half hum his way through the song to get to that point. Nice!
When pointing out the men in the audience, he missed a guy in the front row. Looked in that direction but skipped right over him. Uh oh. When people pointed him out, Clay really got himself out of a sticky situation by saying he couldn’t see well because of the lights in his eyes, and that he “saw the earring” and he moved on. The guy did have a big hoop earring in his ear. Whew. Nice save, Clay.
I think that’s about it. Sorry this is so late in coming. And for whatever reason, I seem a bit foggy on this one. So check the clack for inaccuracies!!!! And thank you so much for the sweetheart who went out of her way to stop me and tell me she loves my recaps. Awwwww. You know who you are
