Title: 9/11 Day of Rememberance on the forums
Post by: Michael on September 09, 2011, 11:18:46 PM
We will be shutting down the forums this Sunday 9/11 in honor of the 10 year anniversary to honor those that passed that horrible day 10 years ago.  I hope you all understand and support this decision.  I strive not to be political on this forum since the website was founded,  but I think of no better way to honor these heroes.

Thank you Michael for providing a tribute to the events of that day, the people who lost their lives, as well as the survivors still coming to terms with what happened.

The Clay portion of the forum will be closed to comments but we will be keeping a Remembrance thread open for those who wish to come together to post memories, tributes, and non-political comments. We simply ask that no Clay-related comments be posted in the thread.

The first responders are in need of monetary support.  Perhaps the members of this site would be interested in offering a donation to them; I know I would be willing to make a contribution.  I do not have a link or the name of their organization, however.

I will never forget where I was and what I thought that day.  I was in my classroom.  The teacher next door came in to tell me a plane flew into the World Trade Center building.  I thought she was kidding.  "Not fun," I said.  We switched on the TV.  It was like the world stood still.  Called my brother whose office was in midtown.  Lines didn't work.  Called his partner.  Same.  Freaked.  Finally he called me.  He actually saw the second plane hit the second tower!  Then his partner told me he had been scheduled for an appointment that morning at WTC.  He stopped for Starbucks.  Long line other wise he would have been in Tower 1.  OMG.  Next was Wasington.  The teacher from next door came back.  We are good friends.  Her son worked right next to the Pentagon and she couldn't get through.  Took hours but he was fine.  Then PA.  Er was at Pitt.  They did not make clear how far the third plane was from her.  Far enough.  Then the TV.  So much sadness.  So awful.

I had just taken my 5th grade class to the library.  As we entered, the television was on and the librarian and some teacher aides were glued to it.  She told my class to sit on the floor and stay quiet.  As soon as they sat down, we all witnessed the second airplane hitting the tower.   This was also the one and only day during my 33 years of teaching career parents were allowed to come and take kids out of school for any reason.  We ended up sending  about half the school home that day due to parents panicking.
