Oh, and by all accounts Clay sounded fabulous tonight! He didn't speak much during the show and he didn't speak at all during the pre concert meet and greet. He used sign language

Pamela,   there was a meet and greet in Washington D.C.?  How did you know about it?  Did you know ahead of time or did you just show up?  Did you need tickets?  I have been trying to find out about a possible meet and greet in St. Louis but all roads have led me nowhere.  Can anyone help?  Also, those of you lucky ones that got to meet Clay in D.C., please share your experience with us!!!  I'm anxiously awaiting any info you guys can help me with as my concert is just 2 weeks away and I have to drive 4 hours to get there.  So if there is any hope of a meet and greet, I need to know and also how early do I need to get there to stand in line?  Thanks Claymaniacs! :

I hope that someone who knows will answer Woodstock's questions.  I for one am not really sure what a meet and greet involves, but I would love to know.

This is Lorilovesgolf - can't log in for some reason - I have been away all weekend and did not get a chance to tell everybody how AWESOME and FANTASTIC the concert was in D.C.!!  First of all, my husband and I got to meet quynn at the concert and we had dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe.  It was so wonderful to meet you!!  Thanks again for the key chain.
The big surprise for us at the concert when it came time to be seated - the usher showed us our seats (we had row 5 tickets) and she sat us in the very FIRST ROW!!!  Jill - when Clay came down from the side -- he walked right in front of us !!!  I was a foot away from him and my husband reached out and touched him!!!  Clay is absolutely beautiful close up - and yes, he did have a 5 o'clock shadow and it was gorgeous!!
I was also able to stand right below the catwalk - right at his feet - and they are big!!  I looked straight up at him as he sang (then they make you leave and go back to your seat!).  It was like a dream - I never imagined I would be that close to him all night longl.  His voice was awesome - he cracked up when he was singing WDC because he tried to hit the high notes on Scream and it just didnt happen so that sent him into fits of laughter.  He was so funny in his comments and facial expressions (which I could see very very well).  I did not want the night to end.  I cant even describe what he is like in person.  Just beautiful.
The woman he danced with was about 70 years old and she was in her glory.  He was so sweet to her - she looked like a school girl she was so giddy!  She layed her head on his shoulder and he danced with her while he sang The Way.
I will never forget that night.

Thanks for the review, Lori!  A lot of fans watching video of WDC were wondering why he started laughing...thanks for clearing that up!  Wow, you were SO lucky, even if you had been in row 5, how great is that! But, to be in the VERY FRONT ROW!!!  Best I could do is first bowl seating (i got the info on fan presales an hour or 2 late....o well, still pretty good seats). I'm seeing him Wednesday....Can't Wait! :D

Thanks for telling your concert story. I really enjoyed it. You are one lucky lady to be so close to OMC!! I also was very glad to hear that Clay could laugh about not reaching the notes. He is obviously handling his throat problem, better than I am. I am officially going to stop worrying about him.   :)

I just read about it after the fact.  I've heard people say they got meet and greet passes through radio stations, but I've also heard people say they just went to the arena early in the afternoon before the show and just hung out.  Good luck!

WASHINGTON DC

At MCI, American Idolatry For the Feats of Clay and Kelly
Monday, March 8, 2004; Page C05

Fox's "American Idol" may be just a karaoke contest wrapped inside yet another let's-laugh-at-people reality show, but its premise -- let America decide whom it wants to listen to -- has produced some actual talent. First-season winner Kelly Clarkson and second season runner-up Clay Aiken don't just have great voices, they've quickly become solid performers. During their co-headlining show Friday at MCI Center, they both cruised the stage comfortably, even signing autographs mid-song without missing a note.

Aiken opened, singing "Kyrie Eleison" as he walked through the audience. Fans, a mix of screaming teens and equally ecstatic middle-aged women, sat only when he did, during an acoustic medley that included Sting's "Fields of Gold" and James Taylor's "Carolina in My Mind." Aiken's love songs are predictable, but they kept the audience at full attention. When he paused to talk to a fan's friend on her cell phone -- coaching the hysterical woman to "breathe, honey, breathe" -- his geeky grin sent the crowd into further delirium.

Though she didn't get the thunderous response granted to Aiken, Clarkson delivered a solid set, belting out her ballad "Beautiful Disaster" accompanied only by a piano, playing guitar with her band on "Low," and whispering Betty Hutton's '40s torch song "Stuff Like That There." But Clarkson lost momentum through several unnecessary costume changes, and it was clear by the lukewarm reaction (and preponderance of Aiken T-shirts) that Clay was the main attraction.

Aiken and Clarkson closed the show with a powerful duet of Journey's "Open Arms," turning a saccharine '80s ballad into a vocal workout, bringing the crowd back to its feet. The pair's talent is genuine, and the crowd was ecstatic.

According to WASH FM, a D.C. radio station, they arranged the meet and greet in D.C., for some of their listeners.  They had given away lots of tickets to the show; don't know if the meet and greet was limited to those folks or not.

At the concert I think Clay said his single would be out about March 16 and Kim's CD would probably be out in April.  I've been walking around with an enormous grin on my face and my Clay pin on my chest ever since Friday night!   :D

Wow Lori!  You are so lucky.  First of all to get 5th row seats and then to find out they were really 1st row seats?......UNBELIEVEABLE.  You must be floating off the ground.  Thanks for sharing your front row experience with us.  Feels like I was up there too!

And one of the bonuses of the whole evening was getting to meet you and your wonderfully funny husband.  It felt like we've been friends forever.  My daughter thoroughly enjoyed it too and can't wait to visit you in DC again.  And now I can say a "Sailor" bought me dinner!   :D

Clay just keeps getting better and better!
