Happy Birthday, Clay Aiken!
One of American Idol’s most popular finalists, Clay Aiken, turns 32 today. Although it’s been eight seasons since Clay was introduced to Idol watchers around the world, he’s still as busy as ever!
On June 1st of this year, Clay released his fifth full length studio album called Tried and True. The album includes classic songs performed by the Season 2 runner-up, including “Mack The Knife” and “Unchained Melody” which he performed during the Top 3 round of Season 2 on Idol. Your Top 2 from Season 2, Ruben Studdard and Clay, reunited and spent the summer touring the nation on “The Timeless Tour.”
A father to 2-year-old Parker Foster Aiken, Clay will hit the road again February 10, 2011 to kick off the “Tried and True” tour in Miami, Florida. He will travel to 22 cities before ending the tour on March 12th in San Francisco.
In addition to recording and touring, Clay has starred on Broadway as Sir Robin in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Clay is also an author—he wrote the New York Times Best-Seller Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life with Allison Glock.
Before becoming an American Idol superstar, Clay tutored a child with autism. Due to his passion to help children with autism, Clay co-founded the National Inclusion Project in 2003 with the mother of the boy he tutored. In 2004, Clay was appointed to National Ambassador for the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, and in 2006 he was appointed for a two-year term to the Presidential Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. UNICEF has sent Clay to countries around the world. He also promotes GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) on his official website.
