Clay Aiken interview – KHFI 96.7 Austin, Bobby Bones show,
10/29/03
BB = Bobby Bones
SG = Sidekick Girl
CA = Clay Aiken
BB: I do believe we have Mr. Clay Aiken on the phone right now!
CA: Hey how are ya?
BB: Welcome to the show CLAY! (lots of woooooooo) Thank you for
joining our radio show here in Austin, Texas, man.
CA: You're quite welcome.
BB: Clay, before we start the interview, we always do a little
something that we call The Gauntlet. Now, it's ten rapid-fire
questions, just tell me which one of the two you prefer. Are you
ready Mr. Aiken?
CA: Okay.
BB: All right...Ruben Studdard or reuben sandwich?
CA: Ruben Studdard
BB: US Weekly or Newsweek?
CA: Newsweek.
BB: Dogs or cats?
CA: Dogs.
BB: Britney or Christina?
CA: Britney.
BB: Eating out or dining in?
CA: Eating out.
BB: Sex in the City or football?
CA: (laughs REALLY hard) Probably Sex in the City!
(they're all laughing at this point)
BB: Versace or Old Navy?
CA: Uh, Old Navy.
BB: Hillary Clinton or Hilary Duff?
CA: Hillary...uunh...Hillary Clinton.
BB: Leno or Letterman?
CA: Leno.
BB: Saved by the Bell or 90210?
CA: Ohhh...I like 'em both!
BB: No preference?
CA: No preference!
BB: Dylan or Zack Morris? C'mon Clay!
CA: Uhh...Zack Morris.
BB: Okay, there ya go, all right, very good Clay. Hey Clay, let's go
back to one of the questions, dogs or cats...
CA: Uh-huh?
BB: You answered that uh so quickly...
CA: Yeah... (laughs REALLY hard again...he's in such a chipper mood
for so early in the morning!!)
BB: Don't you hate cats?
CA: I'm not...I don't hate 'em, but I'm terrified of 'em. I'm really
scared of cats.
BB: You scared of like little cats or big cats?
CA: I'm scared of little cats, I don't mind the big cats, like a lion
or a tiger I don't mind, I'm not afraid of that. But little
housecats, they terrify me.
SG: I read this quote, Clay, that said you could handle Roy's tiger,
but you hate housecats.
CA: Yeah.
SG: Why is that?
CA: I don't know, I just, I'm terrified of housecats. I don't
kn...ooh, I wish...uuuurgh (silly noises..then they laugh at him),
new topic!
BB: What about the Letterman or Leno question, have you met either or
both of these guys?
CA: Yeah, I've been on Leno actually.
BB: Was he pretty nice?
CA: Oh he was, he was REALLY nice. Very very nice.
BB: Everyone who comes on this show says Leno is really really nice.
You haven't been on Letterman yet?
CA: I have not been on Letterman yet.
BB: Are you living with Kim Locke in Los Angeles?
CA: I am.
BB: So what's that like? Are you guys li...uh, I guess you guys are
pretty good friends now, huh?
CA: We're very good friends, yeah. It kinda helps out the whole, you
know, bein' away from home, we've lived together before, and uh, (??)
on the show we lived together, we're both from the South, we're both
new to this whole thing, so it's kind of (starts to yawn while he's
talking...awwww)...it's kind of nice having a roommate you can ask
questions to and who knows what you're goin' through, that type of
thing. So it works out well.
BB: It's not about MONEY, though, is it Clay?
CA: It's not about MONEY??
BB: People have roommates because they can't afford the light bill or
whatever... (stupid girl laughs like that was funny)
CA: Nah, we probably could afford the bills on our own, but we...we
choose not to do it that way.
SG: Clay, didn't you hook up with one of your old roommates or
something, during American Idol?
BB: CARMEN! CARMEN!
SG: Carmen, yeah.
CA: Carm..(laughing)…noooo
SG: Yeah, you did!
CA: No, Carmen and I…Carmen was everybody's little sister, that
would
be kinda nasty to hook up with your little sister. No, we were just
good friends and we joked around a bunch.
BB: Okay, we have Clay Aiken on the phone right now. Halloween is
coming up, Clay. What are you gonna be for Halloween?
CA: Um, I think I'm gonna dress up as Clay Aiken. (laughing) I don't
think I'm gonna dress up as anything. Kim...we're gonna have people
over to the house, Kim Locke wants it to be a costume thing, and I
said "I'm just gonna have to dress up as myself." I can't do anything
else. I don't like...not a big dresser-upper.
BB: who comes to Clay Aiken's Halloween party?
CA: Um...anybody. Kim wants it to be a housewarming party, and I'm
not all about throwing a party so people will bring you gifts.
BB: Will Justin Guarini come?
CA: Um...I'm not sure if he's on the list or not.
BB: Do you hate him? Cuz I hate him, Clay!
CA: Naw...no, I don't HATE him. That's horrible.
BB: You've met him, I assume?
CA: I HAVE met him!
BB: You're much better than him. He's not a very good second place
person. I got his album and...
CA: BE NICE! (can't wait till y'all can hear that...it was so funny!)
BB: No, no...no, I AM nice, because Clay, you're album is
GOOD…but...
CA: Well, thank you.
BB: the Justin album...tell me you've listened to it.
CA: I HAVE listened to it.
BB: Tell me the truth Clay!
CA: I think there are some good songs on there, and then there are
some songs that...not HIS fault...
(stupid girl is all "whooooooa")
BB: We'll accept that...we'll accept that, Clay.
SG: Clay, are you gonna come on tour any time soon?
CA: Um, you know, we've talked about it. We're kinda considerin'
maybe early next year, maybe late next year, maybe never.
SG: You have to come to Austin, because Bobby is like your long lost
twin brother.
CA: Oh really...(laughs)...I'm sorry Bobby.
SG: Seriously y'all look so much alike.
BB: Whatever...Clay, I hear this every day "You look just like Clay
Aiken"
CA: (laughs)
SG: We had this thing on our website that was a picture of Bobby and
a picture of you, and it was "who is who" and y'all were identical.
CA: Oh really.
BB: We're both pretty good looking guys, Clay. I would have to say...
CA: Yeah. (laughs for a long time)
BB: So, where are you right now?
CA: I'm at home, as a matter of fact.
BB: In Los Angeles?
CA: I am.
BB: Clay Aiken, thank you for coming on the show, big round of
applause for Clay Aiken!
CA: My pleasure, my pleasure. Thanks for having me.
BB: Clay, thanks a lot for your time buddy.
CA: You're quite welcome.
BB: See ya later, bye Clay!
