Female fans scream for Clay Aiken
Women, girls seem content with truncated set after 3 hours of opening acts

Today all over Ohio, there are schoolgirls with no voice.

There are also a few hundred moms, grandmothers and aunts who will spend the day nursing their vocal cords.

The cause of all the scratchy throats was Clay Aiken, who performed at the Palace Theater in Cleveland on Tuesday night as the headlining act on KISS (96.5-FM)'s annual Kissmas Koncert.

The American Idol runner-up-turned-pop phenomenon sang only four songs from his platinum debut, Measure of A Man, and he didn't bother with a live band. But the crowd, a mix dominated by old and young "Claymates,'' seemed content with the truncated set.

(snip)

When Aiken casually entered stage left in a black shirt and blue jeans, the crowd was more than ready to hail their king. Aiken began with I Will Carry You, pacing slowly across the stage and hitting all the crescendos at the right time, sending the crowd into screaming fits. With no band, Aiken didn't stray too far from the recorded versions of the songs, but no one seemed to be looking for new interpretations. Between songs, the savvy Aiken, who knows his audience very well, thanked the fans profusely for supporting him and adroitly encouraged them to call radio stations to request his next single, The Way.

OHIO BEACON JOURNAL

Note:  It's not time to start requesting The Way.  Please continue to request Invisible 'cause it's not dead yet!  The Way should be released to radio in another few weeks.  ThanX!

Jingle Ball delivers a glitzy good time

LOWELL -- For a radio station-sponsored concert, the KISS 108 Jingle Ball had a lot of television tie-ins. Whether pop stardom preceded reality TV fame or vice versa, much of the night's vocal fan adoration went to "Newlyweds" star Jessica Simpson, "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken, and Bob the Bachelor, who wasn't performing but stopped by to pitch his new pop music CD. While the celebrity-laden night had the feel of a tepid holiday variety show, with staged glitz and piped-in sound, the audience at the sold-out show at Tsongas Arena had plenty of old-fashioned live-concert fun.

(snip)

The dainty crooner Aiken also elicited wild cheers during his brief set of ballads. Although he had a minimal stage show, singing along to a tape in front of the holiday backdrop, he enraptured the audience with his earnest glances into the camera for the big video screens, as his vocals glided through "I Will Carry You" and "Invisible."

'Dainty crooner?'  BAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!!!  :  :

Hilary Duff, Clay Aiken Unwrap The Mysteries Of Holiday CDs
12.17.2003 7:57 AM EST

"My dream is to do a Christmas album," Jessica Simpson said backstage at a recent holiday festival. "But I gotta have a really big hit album first."

From Frank Sinatra to the Beach Boys to Mariah Carey, that has traditionally been the strategy, but is it still the route to go? Forget about "Do You Hear What I Hear?," the question singers are asking this holiday season is: When exactly is the right time to record a Christmas album?...

...."I think it takes a while," said Clay Aiken, who contributed to October's American Idol: The Great Holiday Classics but plans to release his own some day. "You gotta make sure people will buy it."

Mathew Knowles, Beyoncé's father and manager of Destiny's Child, agrees. "The timing of putting out a Christmas album is key," he said. "You certainly don't want to put out a Christmas album when you have only sold 600,000 records, for example, but preferably when you have a respectable sales base of 3 million or more."...

Or, as 3LW co-manager and Universal Records Vice President of A&R Tse Williams said simply, "The best time to do one is when you're hot."

MTV LINK

Clay, we'll buy it.  Just give it to us.

It's one of my most valuable possessions this holiday season since there is no Clay Christmas CD to buy. When you do one, don worry, they will FLY off the shelves!!!

'THIS IS THE NIGHT' FOR 'AMERICAN IDOL'S' CLAY AIKEN WHEN HE MAKES
ACTING DEBUT AND GUEST-STARS AS HIMSELF IN EPISODE OF NBC'S "ED"

BURBANK – December 17, 2003 - Clay Aiken -- RCA records Double
Platinum recording artist and the runnerup from the hit show "American Idol" - makes his acting debut as a singing star when he "pops" up as himself on an episode of NBC's "Ed" for broadcast in late January.

Born and raised in Raleigh North Carolina, Aiken's musical talent
was evident when he was just three years old. His love for music and
singing led him to join the Raleigh Boys Choir and by seventh grade
he became a member of his school choir. In high school, Aiken won
roles in high school productions of "Oklahoma," "The Music Man" and
a dinner theater stint in "The Sound of Music" one summer (where one
of his co-stars Frankie Muniz before the teen starred in "Malcolm in
the Middle").

After enrolling in college, Aiken decided to study special education
and was soon assigned to the Bubel family in Charlotte, to care for
their son Mike. Interestingly, it was Mike's mother, Diane, who told
Clay he should audition for the second season of "American Idol."

"Measure of a Man," Aiken's much-anticipated debut album, is already
certified double platinum and had an extraordinary first week at
retail, with sales of 613,000 copies and a smashing debut at No. 1
on the Billboard 200. Aiken has the third highest first-week sales
figure of 2003, and the second-highest first week total of any
debuting solo artist in the SoundScan era. "Measure Of A Man" sold
more copies than any other album by a debuting solo artist since
Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" in December 1993.

Tom Cavanagh stars in the quirky comedy-drama series with Julie
Bowen, Josh Randall, JanaMarie Hupp, Lesley Boone, Daryl Mitchell,
Michael Ian Black, Justin Long, Michael Genadry, Rachel Cronin and
Marcy Harriell.

"Ed" is produced by NBC Studios in association with Worldwide Pants,
Inc. and Viacom Productions. The creators are Rob Burnett ("Late
Show with David Letterman") and Jon Beckerman ("Late Show with David
Letterman"). The executive producers are Rob Burnett, Jon Beckerman
and David Letterman.

"American Idol" singer Clay Aiken has signed on to appear in an episode of NBC's "Ed." He'll sing two songs on the show, which is expected to air next month. He'll be playing himself. ...

Oh!  I'll bet he'll sing The Way for Ed's wedding!  What a strategically brilliant marketing move.  And, a gift for the fans!  This will be THE wedding song for 2004 you know.  I just may have to get married again....

If you have the time to place an extra vote or two online for Invisible, maybe we can continue to keep it on top.  Invisible has been on TRL for 28 days and will be retired after 50 days.  Remember there is a new sticky thread in the GOT CLAY forum for all TRL discussion now!

ThanX!

VOTE FOR INVISIBLE ON TRL!

You can vote on the Net or by phone (AI flashback!)
It's more effective to call in your votes if at all possible, because 1 phone call=50 online votes. Your phoned in votes count for the next day's show, and no calls are accepted on the weekends.

You can only call in thirty minutes prior to the show.  TRL starts at 5pm EST, so that means you can call from 4:30pm-5pm EST, and then adjust for your time zone.

You can vote online all day, but you can only call in 3 times a day per phone line.

The phone number is 1-800-DIAL-MTV (1-800-342-5688)
Call 30 minutes prior to the show starting!

To vote online, go to TRL VOTE.
Vote online all day!

I think it's very important for Clay's video to get lots of airplay.  It's a desirable demographic.  Since MTV hardly ever shows videos anymore, outside of TRL, it's our best chance of seeing it, and it's our best opportunity to help Clay.

Go to ABSOLUTE TRL for daily recaps!

Overscene

The scene backstage at the Q100 "Frosty the Showman" sold-out show Saturday night at the Tabernacle proved just as entertaining as the onstage performances. Most of the crowd turned out for ailing "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken.
Backstage, Aiken confessed to Dylan Sprague, who offered him a cup of tea, that he's allergic to "everything that grows on trees." One hasty call later to the toll-free hotline listed on the tea-bag box (an amused operator told Sprague that Aiken would not suffer any ill effects), the singer indulged in the plant-based hot liquid.

ACCESS ATLANTA

Evidently the morning jocks at Atlanta's Q100 had been a bit 'resistant' in the past to Clay and his music.  However, since meeting him it appears they have changed their minds. Today they mentioned his being named the most 'Well Mannered' saying that after meeting him and interviewing him at the concert they certainly understand and agreed with this honor.

And from CA.COM:

Quote
I emailed Bert from the Bert show, and told them how big it was of them to get on the radio and admit they were wrong. This is what he had to say:

"He really did impress the ^&%$ out of me."

Clay changes peoples minds.

Though the Velvet Teddy Bear vanquished the chart competition, his debut album didn't quite measure up to that of Idol rival Clay Aiken. Aiken, who finished behind Studdard on the show by less than 1 percent of the vote, bested Studdard in a head-to-head duel in June on the single chart, selling 393,000 copies to Studdard's 286,000. Just last month, Aiken made an even stronger statement as his debut, Measure of a Man, moved 613,000 first-week copies, still the mark to beat for Idol participants.

The Studdard-Aiken sales contest couldn't be more different from that of the first season's competitors. Inaugural Idol champ Kelly Clarkson debuted at number one with 279,000 copies of Thankful in April, while her runner-up, Justin Guarini, debuted at 20 with just 57,000 copies of his self-titled disc last June. Clarkson's Thankful currently sits at number 92 in its 35th week, while Justin Guarini is long gone from the charts entirely and he has reportedly been dumped by his record label.

NBC is so stupid!!!!  "Ed" is very low rated.  This episode NEEDS to be shown during February sweeps!!  Don't they have any idea how many people will tune in JUST to see Clay??  Sweeps are the most important times for ratings.  Come now, NBC!  You SHOULD know better!!!  Every time Clay is on a tv show, ratings jump! You're missing your chance to make big revenue bucks!

Did you notice that all those gay comments and descriptions like "dainty" are made by men?

Millions of red-blooded American women would disagree!
