Just watched them all. You were right his voice was outstanding! Hope we can see the rest of the show. Nothing at CU yet.

Wanted to bring Johanna's recap over if she doesn't mind.

Well RTMers, I'm home...arrived here around 11:45 PM after an another amazing Claying.  I am really glad that I had patient friends with me.  We left here in the afternoon and arrived there by 3 PM.  Any later than that and we would have been stuck in horrific traffic, of that I am sure.

We first went to the venue and picked up our tickets at will call.  With that, we were able to check out the parking situation and scope out the venue a little.  We weren't allowed in until 6 PM for those of us having dinner there...which was required in Tier 2 and more seats...the first Tier was the pit.  Then, we went over to a near by Hyatt...just about a mile away, and hung out there...had a bite to eat, since dinner would be hours later.

We returned to the venue and hung out in the car waiting...took the opportunity to hear our life stories...lol...become further acquainted with my new retirement friends.  Later we were allowed in to the venue, and found our seats.  They were great...super view of the stage ...maybe only about a car length and a half away.  Immediately, we were waited on...my friends had some meatball sliders and split a salad.  I had a chicken Marsala pasta...and we shared some creme brulee...sp.  While the food wasn't cheap, it was reasonably tasty.

While we waited for Clay, it was a fan reunion...fun to see my old local Clay friends again...it had been too long...since he appeared with Ruben in LA.  Shortly before Clay appeared, Arsenio arrived...could see his son...they were seated at a table in the level behind us.

Clay began...he used that great opening...since there was a curtain...and then it all began.  I have sorely missed his glorious voice.  The place had fairly decent acoustics and his voice soared...filled the hall.  There were a number of men in attendance...and young couples too.  (It must make Clay feel much better that there is an improved mix of an audience this tour.)  And...just as he came on, there were male I love yous...lol.  Glad that people feel free enough to express their affection for him now.

Most notable, was how much richer and controlled his voice is...while it has always been simply exceptional, the maturity is quite apparent.  And, even though his speaking voice was a bit hoarse...he was able to perform completely on pitch and without a single wobble/or crack.  I think he has become more technically adept...and has learned to protect his instrument these days...or was just lucky to avoid getting the creeping crud/flu bugs this time around.

My favorite rendition of the night, The First Noel...the brass section was excellent...and stood during that last verse.  And...a really special treat...I thought he might walk right by us for his encore, and by golly he did...just inches away from me.  I couldn't see his face...the spotlight was right on him...blinded me almost...lol.  Perhaps there will be some good clack of that!  I learned Scarlett was at this concert too...I think she sat in the first or second row.

My friends loved every minute of it...they had never heard him sing Christmas songs, nor heard him live.  They were thrilled to hear him sing all over again on the way home, we played his Christmas CD.

He is such a gift to us...and indeed, I am grateful to have my heart and soul lifted this holiday season by this dear artist.

Thanks for your well wishes...and I have to still catch up on about 4 more pages of the thread...sending hugs to those who had to miss their concert...and to those dealing with health issues and loss...especially hard at this time of year.

Grandma Jane: I hope it is ok to post my Anaheim M&G Recap here.

I think the picture from the Anaheim M&G got to my home before I did. The file was HUGE!!! There will be no problem printing a high quality of this photo.

CLAYONLY and I were excited to discover that we both got a M&G. We had a lot of fun getting our picture taken in the same group at the "National Inclusion Project" Gala in October and now we would have a second picture together with Clay.

She was driving to the concert with two friends and was going to pick me up at the hotel on the way to the M&G. Only there was a bit of frazzle getting there on time. Earlier that day the time was moved to 4:30 instead of 5:00. Clay said he didn't even know this was dinner theater when they set the time and the theater needed more time to get the tables set. I didn't have a computer with me and don't have my inexpensive cell phone set up for text messages. CLAYONLY called me when we were at lunch so I got the message late.

But I worried that they would move the time and warned another lady to be over at the theater Very Early.

When the first ladies arrived I was so surprised they recognized me and gave me a warm "Hello, Grandma Jane. How wonderful to see you again", remembering me from other Clay events in San Francisco.

Soon two more ladies joined us. That made 4 ladies for the OFC M&G and the two ladies with the EBAY auction M&G. One lady was missing, the lady I warned to be early. Unfortunately she doesn't post on the boards and this was the first time I talked to her. (If you are lurking, a big hello to you.) She was staying at my hotel but I didn't know her last name. Clay's manager said maybe they could arrange a rain check M&G for her if she didn't show up soon, and she escorted us into the theater. The last lady luckily showed up before Clay came out.

I was nervous about doing this M&G. People who have met me (been subjected to a Grandma attack, poor things) know I am a nutty, big talker. I'm usually excited and talk very fast. And Lord, don't get me talking about Clay. I had a couple rows in the front of the plane going when we flew down to Anaheim, giving them the entire history of Clay.

But I try to be respectful and more adult when doing something important. Anytime I get near Clay I am very business like, at least I try. I know Clay has many people to see and I try to follow every rule exactly to make it easier for him. I don't shake his hand, or put my arm around him, never trying to touch him.

Another problem I have is when I get near him I find I can't look up at his face. I fuss with something like my purse while I get his autograph at Spamalot or get a CD signed at the Virgin Megastore, look up in time for a picture, but never look at Clay. And it always feels that he is correcting me. I'm upsetting him, so I follow his every direction precisely. After it is over, everyone says he is laughing the whole time we are doing this but I am oblivious, the Aiken Fog.

This however was a dream M&G for me.

We waited for Clay at one of the back tables set at a 90 degree angle to the stage. The orchestra was playing and then Clay came out wearing a worn, dark blue Clemson hoodie and gray sweat pants. His hair looked good, a recent haircut, the style shorter than during most of the tour with a bit of a wave in the front. He stood a bit rubbing his eyes for a bit like he just woke up and then ran through Emmanuel with Joe, his sound guy, standing beside him signaling the man up in the control booth. They turned up the mic, turned it off a bit while Clay spoke a second to the orchestra. Clay resumed singing. Joe signaled the booth to turn the sound back up for the ending. and it was LOUD. I laughed watching him sing while his fingers were busy the entire time texting on his phone. He left the stage and slowly ambled to the back of the theater still texting as he walked.

Clay looked up just as he reached the table and said “Hel-lo, everyone. How are you all?”

I noticed then Clay had a bit of stubble. When Clay shook my hand and asked my name I answered as I always do, “Grandma Jane,....er-r-r Jane__”. He leaned down and looked at my face and in a very gentle voice asked, “You're Grandma Jane?” I answered “Yes”

He went on to the other ladies, doing his teacher thing correcting a few others about what they were allowed to ask for. Then he picked up the items to sign while he spoke to each person about where they were they lived.

CLAYONLY and I were sitting together. We each brought the same Gala picture from last October to get autographed. We also both wanted to tell Clay about the California School for the Deaf.

I took the front page of our local newspaper to show Clay while he was signing pictures. When I told him where I was from, Fremont CA, I said that this was the city in the 'Kite Runner' book, where the Afghani family lived in America and flew their kites in our Central Park.

<snip>.

The M&G continued on so differently it actually felt a bit strange . Clay then told us it was time for the picture. After positioning the front three ladies, he looked at me, asked the first three to march forward ten steps, held open his left arm and softly said, “...and Grandma Jane, you stand right here,” tucking me under his left arm, before moving the other 3 back into place. I remember him touching the left shoulder of the lady in front of me and asking her to "scoot down some and move over so Grandma Jane's face can be seen in the picture" before he told me to move my face over onto his shoulder so it would be a better position. Goodness, his arm felt great against my back and face, so warm and solid.

CLAYONLY said, “I don't have to scoot down. I'm not tall.”

Clay responded, “ Yes you are...not tall.” and got us all laughing.

After the photos, he turned to me and I started to step away saying, at bit over my shoulder, “ Thank you so much for the M&G, Clay. It was wonderful.”

But he opened his arms wide, stopping me and inviting me in and gave me the biggest, longest, hug. I was so startled I actually gave a "Woo" squeal of surprise when he hugged me. In all these 10 years I have never got a hug. I believe everyone else also got a hug before they left.

I am so happy. At Last! At this meeting I was able to look him in the face, actually shook his hand and finally got my Big Clay hug.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas season with Big Clay hugs too,
Grandma Jane

Flew home from sunny Anaheim yesterday and miss our Cluncheon party group already.  What a wonderful 2 days of talking Clay, eating at the Catch across from the Grove venue and meeting other fans like Zipppy and Scarlett.  Then, the most polished Clay I have seen.  I kept saying to friends, he was so confident, his voice was magnificent, the clothes sophisticated and, forgive me, the beautifully groomed red stuff on top of his head made him even more handsome.  (didn't say hair, don't shave it).  Someone finally said, He is grown up now--he is a man.

A lot of NJU sitting in the pit.  The husbands in front of me really appreciated his voice and nodded approval.  Yes, we shared glow sticks.  I was between fans waving in opposite directions but my eyes are protected by glasses. lol   My favs: tape recorder introduction, little girl's interaction with Clay, Mary Did You Know and Clay walking down the center aisle singing the gentle, touching All Year Long and disappearing into the night.

So, I got to see Clay at City National Grove of Anaheim thanks to my friend taking me to the show. Not only did I get an acknowledgement from Clay from the stage, I got a hug from him and a cute quick photo. This was my first time getting a picture with him and it was the first time getting to hug him. I am SO happy! What an amazing Christmas gift from my friend Michael Craig. I've been waiting 10 years doe this! Since I was 15/16.
